This episode of Madam Mariam hit so hard on me and i believe all of us.

Madam Mariam was this 1st Woman I met when I came to Canada and she was my Mentor. She was a selfless Leader, always sharing any information that will benefit anyone around her. If you know her you will testify that she gave her very best to everything she wants to do.

To an extent I will say she came to fulfil her purpose and she touched her generation positively.

I/ We can never forget you in a hurry.

It will take me months, years, or even decades to find the words to capture this loss. This isn't just a blow…. it’s a tsunami, a hurricane, an unprecedented earthquake, a total train wreck. It is shattering, exhausting, devastating, and simply too much to bear.

Sis, you can’t be described in words. You lead without fear, complaint, or complacency. Your face feeds the soul with hope, strength, and love. With you, it’s 'can do, will do, let’s do.'
You set a standard that no one can live up to; no one can replace you or your heart. Your hard work and persistence…. who’s going to do all that? Who can? No one I know has your strength for thankless labor and sacrifice. It’s not about fame, money, or accolades... it’s about community, a win for one is a win for all, and a win for one is a win for you.

I will miss you so much. Who is going to call me and force me to scale?

Maryam, my friend turned sister.

I still struggle to believe you’re gone. 💔 You were warm, kind, gentle and soft-spoken. Mairooo, as I fondly called you, my super cheerleader and plug.

“Lady Ariyike, I have invitations for you, your husband and the boys or Lady Ariyike, there’s someone I think you should meet or Lady Ariyike, what should I do to improve my next event or just us gisting on the phone and you’ll end the conversation with - We mooooove.” 💔 These words will forever remind me of you. You always had somewhere for us to go, something happening, someone to connect me with, or another plan for us to make. We have hundreds of pictures and videos together, and I never imagined that this would ever happen. Hmmm! My Maryam! Our Maryam! Canada Vendors! Our shinning star!

One thing that gives me comfort is knowing that you knew you were loved. I’m glad I always gave you your flowers. I remember the joy on your face when you walked into the surprise birthday party that a couple of us planned for you two years ago. The surprised look, laughter, tears and excitement on your face made me so happy. You knew how much you meant to us, and I’m grateful we got to show you.

You had so many dreams and plans for Canada Vendors and Nigerians in 🇨🇦

We spoke every other day. I still remember our last conversation and everything we talked about. 💔 You were one of the first few people I would call to share good news with and you were always so happy to receive good news!

I have been numb, sad and through different stages of grief. But now, when I think of you, I ask myself, “What would Maryam want?” And I know you would want us to be at peace, to be joyful and to keep living.

The hardest part is how life continues and how painful it is knowing you are no more here with us. 💔

When I spoke with your husband, I felt the weight of your loss even more. Yesterday, I was with your family in Lagos for your Fidau prayers at 8:00 a.m. Seeing your dear Mum carry the pain, your siblings feel the loss, I met your childhood friends and we all had the same things to say about you being a connector that always wanted everyone to win.

and you will always be remembered for the good you did, the people you lifted, the connections you made and the lives you touched.

May God comfort your husband, your Mum, your siblings, your loved ones and everyone who is grieving. May He give us strength for each day, peace in the midst of the pain, and grace to hold onto the beautiful memories you left behind.

May your life continue to speak through the many people you encouraged, helped and loved.

It’s very bitter to loose such a wonderful woman.

I believe God placed Maryam in our mist for a purpose. And indeed, She came! She saw! She conquered!

Her dedication to building opportunities, supporting entrepreneurs, and strengthening communities made a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Her presence, leadership, and commitment will be deeply missed—not only within BRAC, but also across the wider Nigerian and Canadian communities.

I’m still in disbelief and trying to wrap my head around your passing!

Maryam you were such a force to reckon with, an amazing soul, a builder, you were far too kind, I can never forget the pandemic days when you gave your time immensely to help our Nigerian community.

I can still vividly remember how you came all the way from Brampton to deliver me a package with some goodies and how you sent me events close to me you were going to be at.

Your sudden passing is a huge shock to everyone that encountered you and the ones planning/yet to.

They say we can’t question God, that he knows best.

Wow. This is so incredibly sad 😢

I never got the opportunity to meet Maryam, but somehow, I feel like I know her. We have a few mutual friends and I have no doubt that our paths would have crossed eventually if the cold hands of death had not taken her away from us.

Even without ever meeting me, she recommended me for an MC gig. I reached out to her on Instagram to thank her, but sadly, she never got around to responding 🥺

Reading all the beautiful tributes people have shared about her here, it honestly feels like I got a glimpse of who she was: a bright light, deeply loved by her community, someone who showed up, worked hard and made an impact wherever she went. I admire her work ethic and the way she poured into the people and community around her. I’m grateful that I got to experience a piece of her kindness and generosity, even from a distance.

I pray that her legacy continues to live on through the lives of everyone she impacted, encouraged, supported and inspired. May the work she started continue to bear fruit, and may the people she touched carry her light forward.

During COVID, I was on the phone with a friend when she said, “There’s someone you need to speak to.” Right there, she added Maryam to the call.

2 minutes into the conversation, Maryam said, “You are so knowledgeable. Our community needs to hear from you. Let’s do an IG Live on Wednesday.”

I said, “I don’t even have an Instagram page.”

Right there, that night, we opened my Instagram page.

We did the IG Live a week later, and Maryam started inviting me to speak at events.

“Paul, the mayor and premier are attending this event. Come with your books.”

“Paul, there’s this event I want you to attend. Are you available? I’ll speak to the organizers about getting you a speaking slot.”

After every speaking engagement, I would ask her, “Maryam, how was it?”

Her response was always, “Fantastic!”

When I wanted to start The Thriving Immigrant podcast, I shared the idea with her. Her response?

“Fantastic!”

Of course, she was my very first guest on the podcast.

Being my first guest gave me all the confidence I needed to begin.

Maryam was a force.

She was a mentor.
She was a connector.
She was a bridge.
She was a great resource.
She was a community builder.
She was amazing, all round.

She was easy-going, level-headed and calm, yet powerful and influential.

My consolation is that you impacted many lives. Your memory is blessed forever.

Though your days were short, the quality and impact of those days were powerful.

This is how I choose to remember you: elegant, kind, calm, generous and deeply impactful.

It is still difficult to come to terms with Maryam Muritala’s passing.

Maryam was truly an exceptional person. She was warm, kind, supportive, and almost always had a smile on her face. She was one of those people who genuinely wanted to see others do well, and she didn't just say it; she showed it through her actions.

I personally experienced that kindness and support in so many ways. Maryam was always looking for opportunities to support my business. She would send referrals my way, recommend my services, and help give my business visibility whenever she had the opportunity. I still remember when she invited me to be interviewed as part of her entrepreneurial journey series. That was Maryam, always creating opportunities, encouraging people, and finding ways to shine a light on others.

What stood out to me was how naturally she did these things. Her support never felt forced or transactional. She was simply an encourager. She believed in people, celebrated their progress, and wanted to see them succeed.

I will remember her beautiful smile, her kindness, her generosity, and the encouragement she gave so freely. I am grateful that our paths crossed and that I had the opportunity to experience the wonderful person that she was.

I honestly don’t know what to say. Some losses leave you searching for the right words, and this is one of them. Maryam was one of those people I genuinely thanked God for bringing into my life.
She had such a beautiful spirit. She was warm, full of life, generous with her kindness, and genuinely happy to see other people win. There was something special about the way she supported people. She didn’t just applaud you from the sidelines, she made room and, opened doors for you, spoke about you, connected you and made you feel like what you were building mattered. Maryam, this is so painful. It breaks my heart to know that I can no longer pick up the phone and talk to my sister.

You always had the right words to say at the right time. You were intentional, thoughtful, and full of wisdom. Your words of encouragement meant so much to me.

You believed in me. You connected me to people in my line of business. You opened doors, shared opportunities, and supported me in ways I will never forget.

You were a real gem. A beautiful soul. A woman who made an impact.

I am still in shock that you are no longer here. It is difficult to believe that my sister is gone. But even though you have left this earth, your legacy lives on.

This news feels impossible. Unreal. The kind of news your mind struggles to process.

Maryam was truly a pillar of hope, community and encouragement in the Nigerian-Canadian community. Through Canada Vendors, she created platforms that gave entrepreneurs and community leaders visibility, connection and a reason to keep going.

I will never forget that Maryam gave me my very first award as a community leader at her maiden Entrepreneur Awards. That award still sits proudly on my office bookshelf today. Every time I see it, I will remember the woman who saw something in me and took the time to celebrate it.

During the pandemic, I was also privileged to be a keynote speaker at some of her online events. What stood out to me was her humility and genuine kindness. For someone who had created such an impactful platform, she was incredibly warm and unassuming.

Maryam didn’t just build a platform, she used it to lift people.

The Nigerian-Canadian community has lost a beautiful soul, but her impact lives on through the countless people she encouraged, connected and celebrated.

This one hurts deeply.

Maryam touched many lives through her kindness, contributions, and the positive difference she made in her community. Though her time with us was far too short, the legacy of her good deeds, compassion, and the wonderful memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

This is a big loss to our community. I never met you in person but I followed you on social media and watched how deeply you are into your community and support everyone. I hoped that you were going to help launch my business too as you did to many but this is never going to happen again. I saw you online always as an angel.

I met Maryam about 3 years ago in Ottawa. I believe she attended a Black History Month event at the Parliament. She was kind, attentive and ready to discuss any issues on building sustainable bridges and platforms for Black businesses.

Maryam, you delivered on your purpose at such a young age and perfect number of 40.

You will be missed by family and the immigrant communities in Canada.

How do you find the words to honour someone whose presence meant so much to so many?

Maryam Muritala was a visionary, a remarkable leader, a pacesetter, the one who paved way for others and a woman with a welcoming heart. She brought people together, created opportunities and made a lasting impact within the Nigerian community and across Canada.

We remember her warmth, her dedication and the way she made others feel welcome. Her absence will be deeply felt, and her impact will never be forgotten.

I met Mariam about 2 years ago and not long after we were on the phone for more than an hour getting to know each other. She was so interested in hearing about what I do.
She LISTENS to you not just hears you! She encourages you. She does her best to showcase you for no gains to her just to get you out there and soaring. She is a True, Selfless and Great Example of a Community Leader. One that makes everyone feel they are the most important. Maryam you did well impacting so many lives mine inclusive....wowww. you are being missed so much already but I know that your memory sure lives on. Good night, Maryam. I only met you once at NIDEC sometimes early August, but your kindness and helpfulness left a lasting impression. You told us, “Just display your banner here; if someone says it’s their spot, we’ll move you somewhere else.” You placed us right in front, ensuring we benefited from every expo visit—and that display opened doors to many more amazing opportunities.

It’s heartbreaking and shocking to hear of your passing. Rest in perfect peace, Maryam, until we meet again at the feet of Jesus. 🕊️
