Obituary

Mary Kay Strauss was her formal name but, in our family, she was “Mumsie”. Mary was born on August 11, 1958, and went to be with Jesus on her resurrection Sunday, October 18, 2026. Mary grew up in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin where she was raised by her father and mother, Raymond and Elaine Martin. She graduated from Menomonee Falls North high school in 1976.

Mary met the love of her life at a Fireman’s Benefit Polka dance on October 13, 1973. This year marks the 53rd anniversary of that dance meeting! That German melody led to the marriage of Robert Strauss on June 3, 1978. An amazing 48 years of marriage!

Mary (and Robert) became a child of God in the Spring of 1986. This rebirth led to the birth of their daughter, Katherine Jean (Katie) on May 29, 1987. These new beginnings of honoring God paved a way for many great adventures. Although Mary’s favorite profession was being a mother and homemaker, she enjoyed the travelling and moving adventures in their journey.

Mary eventually moved from Wisconsin to Houghton, Michigan, Odessa, Texas, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, London, England, Sugar Land and Frisco, Texas and finally in Burleson to live four doors from her favorite girls Lucille (age 9), Dorothy (age 7) and daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Russell Young.

Mary’s walk in life was always enthusiastic; she was gifted in encouraging and mentoring others. She often taught girls bible studies, was involved in leadership with Bible Study Fellowship and was even the “Sno-Cone Queen” of Katie’s swim team!

Mary is survived by her beloved husband Robert Strauss and their daughter Katherine Young, son-in-law Russell Young and two granddaughters, Lucille and Dorothy Young of Burleson, Texas. Also, Mary’s brother Thomas John Martin of Hartland, Wisconsin and sister Jean Schlosser, nephews Drake and Sullivan Schlosser; one niece, Lacie Schlosser McGrew and Lacie’s husband, Ross McGrew; also, Robert’s sisters, Patti Beyer, Diane Tomashaski and Robert’s brother, James Strauss, all of Wisconsin.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Martin, her mother, Elaine Martin and her older sister Jennifer Thompson; her brothers-in-law Paul Beyer and Greg Tomashaski.

Mary would like to say a special thank you to all the medical professionals for their fabulous care and encouragement since having and beating cancer in her 30’s. A special thanks to Dr. Joan Walker formerly of OU Medical Center, for her willingness and compassion to help a young mother that was medically dismissed to raise her daughter. Dr. David Kim for his care and maintenance of Mary since 2015 and Dr. Marianne Yaeger for her love and compassion for Mary in her later years. Now Mary is in the hands of the Great Physician – our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To God be the glory and honor forever!
