Mary Ellen (Cruzen) Blumke

In the hearts of those who loved you, you will always be.

Obituary

On March 17th, 2025 Mary Ellen (Cruzen) Blumke was called to Paradise.  She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, knowing she was loved and cherished by her four children, daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.

Her life was filled and nurtured by her need to help others. Through her volunteer efforts with the youth athletics in Minnesota and with people afflicted by Mental Health conditions or chemical dependency issues both in Minnesota and Arizona. As children we often had to share our mother with strangers, family and friends. She took a leave of absence to help her sister's family process the diagnosis of terminal cancer, she would arrange her schedule to help shuttle others to and from treatments around the St. Cloud area and the Twin Cities and always had a pot of hot coffee or a cold coke for those who needed a listening ear and friendly smile. There are countless days when we children would come home to visitors at our kitchen table chatting away for hours with Mom, be it old acquaintances, current friends or friends of her children. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends.

In her later years, one of her great loves was hosting an annual Halloween parade through the backyard of her home in Arizona for the neighborhood children.  Those children and parents would revel in the ever evolving creations her family concocted.  She loved to see the look of wonder on the faces of those who partook in this safe space and she was amazed at the ever growing numbers of those who came to witness the display, often marveling in the great distances some traveled as word of mouth spread from the neighborhood.

With respect to her wishes we will be having a private memorial for the immediate family, We ask that any donations you would like to make in her name would go to support your local Human Society or the one we've linked below. Throughout her time she's rescued 6 dogs and provided them a wonderful home, or helped to re-home gifting further joy and warmth to another's home.

Please help us keep her alive through this memoriam.  By sharing you will help us all relive and learn more about this amazing person who lived to impact others.

I loved the soccer Goddess. Her irreverence, humor, and dedication to saint cloud soccer impressed me and she was always a joy to talk to.

Mary was not just my sister in law but a very special friend. Our kids grew up together at their lake home. Very good memories of that time. With our kids growing up and having their own kids, and us both moving to different states, we drifted apart. She will always hold a special place in my heart.

Somehow sitting at Mary’s kitchen table hours would pass by with coffee, chitchat and plenty of laughter. When our plane got turned back in a snowstorm after a new years visit we spend days at that table. In my mind last night I could clearly see Mary, my mom, and Grandma sitting around a table on a cloud catching up…. She will be deeply missed!

As sisters we had our ups and downs but we always loved each other. When Al died she was there for me any time I wanted to talk she always said the right thing to help me . I will miss our visits we had in the summer when she would come out to campground I was at and we would visit and reminisce about our lives and kids lives. Love you sis and will miss you forever.

Very sorry for your loss. Mary sounded like an incredible lady! Reading about her life, her generosity, kindness to her community, family and especially for her love of animals truly touched me. My deepest condolences to her family. My prayers to them during this difficult time.

Where do I start… most were the memories in the 80’s and 90’s and it was of course soccer ⚽️. The memories are endless and remembering the goofiness her and my mom had on and off the soccer fields. May she rest in peace.

My thoughts are with the entire family during this difficult time ❤️

Mary was a great listener. When we were younger she was always there for me. As we grew older we drifted apart. Will miss her.

I have only fond memories of Mary. What a wonderful family she raised! I loved her compassion for the people she cared for at work, but I sure she also took none of their bullsh$t! I will always think of Mary on Halloween and her beautiful Christmas decorations. I hope she is sitting by the pool in heaven enjoying all of her pups! Sending love and prayers to all of the Blumkes! Love, The Shaffers

Being a neighbor to Mary, we would see each other a lot at the mail box, we talked a lot about Halloween decorations, we were both into Halloween, setting up decorations for the kids in the neighborhood, handing out candy to the little ones, we have known each other for almost 17 years, I got to know her kids Malia and Darrin really well over the years, they have always treated us with respect, I’ll miss your smiling face Mary, I’ll miss our talks at the mail box, RIP my dear friend.

Mary was always the best listener when I was a patient in St. Cloud. I will always remember her for how she cared for everyone.

Mom loved looking out in the backyard seeing all the wildlife here in Arizona. But her favorite was when the ranchers would ride by on the horses. Whenever I see a horse I will think of you Mom.
