Martin Ira Pierce

That's the whole challenge of life - to act with honor and hope and generosity, no matter what you've drawn. You can't help when or what you were born, you may not be able to help how you die; but you can - and you should - try to pass the days between as a good man. - Anton Myrer, Once an Eagle
Obituary
Martin Ira Pierce was born June 20, 1979, to Dale and Nancy Pierce and was raised in Vancouver, Washington alongside his sister, Heather. It was in his early years that he began the foundation of his love of the outdoors as an Eagle Scout. His time spent learning wilderness skills and enjoying all nature had to offer continued to the very end of his life.
At the age of 19, Marty enlisted in the United States Airforce as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic, working on the equipment used for military aircrafts from 1998 to 2003. At 22 years old, he was deployed to Saudia Arabia where he served in 2001. Once back home, he began work as a tow truck driver while he pursued the next, bigger chapter in his life.
After years of a long distance relationship, extensive conversations and being drawn to Marty’s pure kindness and unending humor, Kristi Price happily accepted when he proposed. The two married on June 28, 2003, where their journey continued and grew as they welcomed their two wonderful children, their son, Parker, and daughter, Calla.
Marty could not keep his passions as his own and shared them with his children, even his joy of collecting guns and knives. A dedicated father, he spent ample time teaching them the art of hunting, throwing knives, shooting bows, fishing, boating, camping and survival skills. He even invested in teaching his family to swim, including his wife. His family thrived and shared the same interests and spent more time together in the wilderness in these last years than most people could manage in a lifetime.
His love of Scouts was rekindled when his son joined in first grade, stretching into high school, becoming an integral part of their family’s lives. Marty dedicated his instruction, knowledge, passion and time to the troops for 10 years, gaining his most recent role as Scoutmaster.
Marty’s house was always full of family, friends, laughter, love, smoke from the BBQ, and more Legos than one could ever imagine necessary. His kindness was unending, always willing to lend a hand to others with whatever they might need and never expected anything in return. Marty had all that he could ask for and lived each day to the fullest. He was a proud father, a loving husband, an incredible family member and an honest and loyal friend.
Marty will be painfully missed to all those whose lives he touched, but his mischievous smile, never-ending jokes and his snickering laughter will live on in all of us. Never really gone, just onto his next big adventure, where we will one day join him.

His passion for scouting and outdoor skills were so evident in everything he did. I will always remember the detailed run down he gave me of his troops’ patrol boxes and being amazed at how organized and well maintained it all was:
Our patrol knew he would make a great Scoutmaster and I’m heartened that he had that opportunity.
So glad to have known him and saddened to know we’ve lost such a great soul.

Sincerely,
Annie, Mike and Drake Prather
