Obituary

Martin George Mikulski, "Marty Mikulski", 76, of Lake Winola passed away July 27, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.

Martin Mikulski was born at Lake Winola, PA on April 12, 1944, and grew up at the lake and spent time at his father's campground in Benton, PA. When he was 17 years old, he moved to Brooklyn, NY where he completed school at Midwood High School. He worked nights at the US Post Office to help put himself through school at Brooklyn College for a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Master of Arts.

Martin Mikulski was once married in 1969, but then he met a student named Jasmine Kee in 1972 while teaching at Erasmus High School and had a relationship with her. Martin Mikulski and Jasmine Kee spent the next 28 years in Brooklyn with daughter Lauren Mikulski, son Michael Mikulski and Christopher Chin (Jasmine Kee’s first child and Lauren and Michael Mikulski’s maternal half-brother). Martin Mikulski also taught Organic Chemistry at Brooklyn Technical High School and took sabbaticals to travel to Canada and throughout the USA (out West to Bryce Canyon and down to the Florida Keys). Other family trips included Hawaii and Cancun, Mexico. In addition to teaching, he bought and managed apartment homes in Sea Gate, Coney Island, NY and at Lake Winola, PA.

Martin Mikulski and Jasmine Kee later retired in November 2008 to Pennsylvania at Lake Winola, where Lauren Mikulski and Michael Mikulski spent their summer vacations. In his retirement he loved snow skiing, as a season pass holder at Elk Mountain, going almost every day if the weather permitted. In the non-winter months, he loved jet skiing on the lake and was an avid reader of non-fiction novels.

Martin is survived by his domestic partner of 47 years, Jasmine J. Kee. He was the son of the late George Robert and Claire Hotchko Mikulski. He joins his late Bichon Frise dogs Cesar, Sophie, and ever-loyal Mojo. In addition to his domestic partner, he is survived by son, Michael George Mikulski and Michael's fiancé Nikki Tumati; daughter, Lauren Ann Mikulski; paternal half-brother, George Robert Mikulski, Ph.D.; sister, Nancy Ann Asiack. He will also be missed by pet companions, Rico Suave, Milo, Ace and Chance.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Please visit the funeral home website to share memories or extend condolences.
