Your presence we miss, your memory we treasure.

Obituary

It's with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son Mark. He passed away of natural causes on 2nd March 2025, at the age of 31. A loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, colleague and friend to many, who will be forever missed by all.

Mark was an amazing son, he was a happy, fun loving and energetic kid. He was a natural sports player, in particular his passion being basketball. If we close our eyes now, we can still see him in the backyard shooting 3 pointers, one after the other.
We missed him when he moved to Australia, but he made many friends and built a career & life here. We cherished our visits to Australia and had wonderful memories together. We will love you always, think of you everyday and you will live on in our memories.

As a brother, we used the countryside of Wellington as our playground. We spent countless hours exploring, causing mischief and honing our competitive drive in any sport we could. I’ll forever treasure the time we had together and it has shaped who I am today. I’ll forever miss you!

As a friend, he was a kind, upbeat and enthusiastic mate with a heart of gold. He would lighten any room he entered with his humour & sense of calmness. We will always remember his love of sharing his favourite music over a few cold ones and strumming along the first few chords of Incubus’s Drive. Mark, you’ll be missed more than words can say.

As a colleague he was caring, hardworking and always had time to help those around him. He had a personal approach to his work, which led to him building lasting friendships. Mark, you shaped so many people’s careers and we’ll be forever grateful to the time with you and to be able to call you our friend.

May he rest in peace & live on in our hearts.

I met mark at MIC where he was my Team Leader. He was one of the best managers that I have worked with, so inspiring and helpful. He was a great friend and an amazing person overall. Extremely talented, hardworking, humorous and kind hearted. You will truly be missed. Rest in peace bro!

Mark started as my manager at MIC, but quickly became a true friend. He was one of the most caring and selfless people I’ve known, always going above and beyond to ensure his team was happy and thriving. We shared countless nights at the pub, cracking up the whole time. Today, as I travel to Tasmania for the first time in five years (since I went with Mark), it’s going to feel strange to be back so soon after the news. But going to make the most of it for Mark!

I met Mark while living and working in Australia and we had an instant bond with similar senses of humour. Mark was a great bloke to be around, easy going and told a good yarn over many a beer that we had. I’ll forever remember him as ‘Gary’ due to his similar hairstyle as cricketer Nathan Lyon, plenty of shared laughs were had with this.
The bbq at his and Keegan’s flat and golf day, amongst many other occasions with friends will be fondly remembered.

A great innings but far too short and will be missed by many!

I had the pleasure of knowing Mark through friends he made in film course and I got to know him even more throughout the years as we became close and worked together at CCNZ. Some of my favourite nights were spent down with the basketball outside burger liquor where we spent more time talking and joking around than actually playing.
These are memories I’ll never forget and I will always be grateful to Mark for creating these with me.

Mark was my manager at MIC in australia. Whilst I was only there for 6months travelling from the UK he became a great friend and I will always have fond memories of the time myself, mark and keegan shared back in 2018. After All this time I can still look back and remember what an unreal boss he was and so kind and funny. So sad to hear the news and hope you the family find peace knowing he impacted people in such a positive way at just from knowing them only a few months, Rest in peace Mark <3

I’ll always remember your laugh, and replace the words to “Oh, sniffer dog Redmond” in my head when I hear the song Seven Nation Army. You’re aura was so peaceful- you won’t be forgotten.

I was lucky enough to have worked with Mark at CCNZ. He was truly one of the best salesmen I've ever worked with but more importantly, he was a great friend. I have so many good memories of going over to his and Keegan's flat after work, hanging out and playing old PS2 games. Haere ki tua o te arai my friend and I hope to see you again in the next life.

Mark Redmond was a kind, upbeat, and enthusiastic mate with a heart of gold. His presence in any room would radiate a sense of calm and light up the situation. Throughout the time I lived with Mark, both in New Zealand and Australia, there wasn’t a day that went by without a laugh it was our favorite kind of medicine. We’d often crack open a cold one, and Mark would take the opportunity to showcase his favorite music. At the time, we listened to a lot of Home Brew, J. Cole, and his all-time favorite, Mac Miller. Meanwhile, he’d often strum the first few chords of Incubus's Drive , he didn’t sound half bad, but man, I must have heard those same few chords thousands of times haha
Now, I have to share how Mark earned the nickname “Sniffer Dog” (or “Sniffer” for short). Not much slipped past Mark. He was quick to pick up on things and was as sharp as a knife. This particular incident happened one night on the balcony of our local pub, The GP. We were all enjoying a drink when someone I won’t name names let one rip. The thing is, the fart hadn’t even reached the person who delivered it yet, but Mark immediately made it known he had caught a whiff of it. He called it out straight away, and someone from the group, laughing, said, “What are you, a dog? A sniffer dog? That fart hasn’t even left my ass and you’ve already picked it up with that dog-like nose!”
And just like that, Mark was officially dubbed “Sniffer.” Of course, we couldn’t let that name go without a chant. Our English mate, Chris, wasted no time, and before we knew it, we had a new anthem for Mark. To the tune of Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes, it went: Dun dun dun dun, duuuun dun duuuun , and was changed to Ohhhh Sniffer Dog Reeeedmond! Every time I hear that song now, it instantly brings me back to those nights and reminds me of Mark.
In short, Mark will be missed more than words can say. He was one of a kind always had a yarn or a sharn for us , you’ll always be in my memories sniffer <3
