Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Maria Esperanza Rodriguez , who was born on January 1, 1955, and passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026.

Esperanza will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and beautiful ability she had to bring people together. She was a woman whose love could be felt in the way she cared for her family, shared her laughter, and made every gathering a little more special simply by being there.

Esperanza was blessed to grow up surrounded by a large and loving family, alongside her 14 siblings and wonderful parents, whom she loved deeply. She treasured the memories of her childhood and the love her parents gave her, carrying those memories with her throughout her life. She loved sharing stories about her family and the experiences that shaped who she became.

She was then blessed with a big family of her own. Esperanza was the loving mother of Hector, Erika, Oscar, Marisela, and Isabel, who gifted her with 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest blessing and her greatest source of happiness. There was never a day when she did not find a way to embrace and express her love for them.

To her family, Esperanza was known as the life of the party. She was the first one on the dance floor and the last one ready to leave. Her laughter, silliness, and playful spirit were unforgettable. One of the greatest blessings her family can carry is knowing that her silliness and sense of humor were passed down from her children to great-grandchildren.

And when a cumbia began playing, the room would quickly turn into a Maria Esperanza Rodriguez concert, complete with a family who couldn't help but enjoy. Music was one of the many ways Esperanza brought joy to the people around her.

She found happiness in music, singing, dancing, a good game of Continental, a long visit to the casino, and, most importantly, her family. She loved being surrounded by the people she loved and creating memories with them. Whether it was a big family gathering or simply spending time together, Esperanza had a way of making those moments meaningful.

She was caring, loving, smart, and full of laughter. She was the person who brought energy and warmth into the family—the one whose presence made gatherings feel complete. She was not only a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she was a sister, daughter, aunt, friend, and a beloved part of so many people's lives.
Esperanza leaves behind a legacy that is much greater than words can describe. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends will carry her memory with them in countless ways.

We will hear her in the music she loved.
We will see her in the smiles and silliness she passed down.
We will remember her every time the family gathers together.
And we will feel her love in the family she worked so hard to keep close.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we are grateful for the years we were blessed to have her with us, for every story she shared, every song she sang, every dance she danced, every laugh she gave us, and every moment she spent loving her family.

Esperanza was the heart and spirit of her family. Her love brought us together, her laughter filled our memories, and her legacy will live on through every generation she loved.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

One of our grandma’s last wishes was for her home in Tijuana to be preserved and fixed up so that it could continue to be a place where our family makes memories for years to come. We have created a GoFundMe dedicated to honoring our grandma’s final wish: preserving and restoring her beloved home in Tijuana.
This home meant so much to her, and she dreamed of returning to it. We hope to keep her home standing as a place where her grandchildren and great-grandchildren can continue to gather, make memories, and feel connected to her for generations to come.
Although she didn’t get the chance to return home the way she hoped, we want to honor her last wish. Her remains will be resting in her beloved home, giving her loved ones a special place to visit her, remember her, and feel close to her.
Any contribution, big or small, will help us fulfill her wish and preserve a piece of the home and legacy she loved so dearly.
Her home will remain a part of our family, just as she always will.
