Marcia Simmons Brown

Marcia Simmons Brown
Marcia was an extraordinary woman. She was brilliant, honest, and trustworthy, and beloved as a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. Our lives are better for having known her and poorer for her absence.

I met Mooch at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1972.
We set our lives together for 7 years.
I was searching how to contact her, as our 50th college reunion is in April this year and I wondered if she would be there.
I was devastated to find this memorial.
I spent all day thinking about her from times long ago.

I would choose Center Field by John Fogarty. Marcia was a treasured member and commissioner of our rotisserie baseball league. Her wit and organization brought us life and fun for years abs years. We will greatly miss her!

I found conversations with Marcia to be uniquely helpful in recent years when my family faced some real health issues. Marcia was a good active listener, with sound advice on how to help others and take care of myself. I admire the grace and perseverance that she exemplified in the face of physical declines. In baseball, I think that at one point she and I shared the mistaken view that Bobby Dalbec would be a big success for the Red Sox. Well, no one is perfect! Farewell and thank you, Marcia Simmons Brown.

We had a few friendly debates with Marcia about music. She loved anything by the Allman Brothers. Rambling Man was one of her favorites. She also loved Talking Heads. I believe she liked the song Once in a Lifetime. We will miss her so.

I have a wonderful memory of sharing a magical sunset with your mom in Kampala, Uganda. I was living there at the time, and we sat at one of the hotels, overlooking the hills. I recall lots of funny stories and lots of laughter, both of which characterized most of my interactions with her. Sending you all my deepest condolences.

When I started working at Accion, Marcia worked in the Resource Development Team, and I was always struck by her honesty, and principles she embodied which for me had a big impact.
May she rest in peace.

I’d like to share the song Wind Beneath My Wings because it reminds me so much of your mom. She was truly my hero when I first started at Accion—so kind, smart, thoughtful, and with such a wonderful sense of humor. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Service
Please join us for a celebration of Marcia's life. Our mom would have loved a party by the water with all of her friends and that is what we want this day to be.
If you can, please share a song on the Memory Wall that makes you think of Marcia Brown so we can fill her party with the music of her life.
