Obituary

Mamie Lee Lula Berry Wright, born November 27, 1918, in Jeff Davis County, Mississippi, peacefully passed away in the Spring time of her life. 
Mamie was a cherished resident of Jackson, MS, and beloved wife to Mr. Will Henry (Willie) Wright, was part Native American. Together, they built a life rooted in love and devotion. She was a beautician, with shops on Lynch Street, in Jackson, MS. She was a member of Lynch Street CME CHURCH, where she served as her circle president, proudly displaying the light blue carnation. She served as district conference president, She was a member of the Chancery choir, president of the usher board.  Along with her husband, Willie Wright, Mamie led 100’s of children to church. During the Christmas holidays ,  Willie would carry children on hay rides. On Easter Sundays, the couple would have Easter Egg hunts in their bank yard. Mamie was a proud mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother providing care, guidance, and unwavering support throughout her years.
Mamie touched the lives of many in her community with her warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit. She was a great cook and often was paid to cook family meals for families in Jackson, MS. and visiting deacons, elders, and bishops.  She would fascinate  listeners with stories of her childhood in the country; and her Aunt Jane who was the famous fortune teller, who predicted that Mamie would have one child, and that child would have one child. The locals called it 1,1 and 1. Mamie’s address in Jackson, was for many years, (1101 Pearl street), in Jackson. Mamie could capture the attention of others with her skills in slaughtering hogs, ringing chicken’s necks, preparing exotic meals like hog head souse, boiled beef tongue, stewed rabbit, fried tripe, oysters, and chitterlings.  She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and quiet strength that will be remembered by all who knew her. Her long life stands as a testament to her resilience and commitment to her family.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate her remarkable life and the lasting impact she had on all who knew her.
