Mama's Life & key Milestones
Mama Unushemi Osegba was born on 6 October 1917 in Oria-Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria.
During the 1930s when mama was a young teenager, female children were not given the
opportunity of a formal education or going to school, instead they were informally educated at home,
taught to farm and how to manage a home and then married off early. At 18 mama was married to
chief Obiebi Jackson Eruvwe, who was a trained male nurse and the first educated person in the Eruvwe
family. Chief Obiebi Jackson Eruvwe had the distinguished pleasure of working with a very prominent
abraka indigene, the foremost Dr Frederick O Esiri.
Subsequently Mama had 2 children, a daughter, Chief Rosalynn Aruoture Ighometuwere Eruvwe and a son
Montgomery Okotie. Unfortunately Montgomery passed away from illness as a young child. Mama's surviving
daughter, chief rosalynn aruoture eruvwe eventually had 3 children, Uyota, Uruemu and Uloho making mama
a grand mother and eventually a great grand mother to David Igbunu Edu, Jayden Onime, Macy Onime and
Ella-Rose Onime, Agogho onome-Irikefe.
In 1970 mama found her business calling, mama relocated to northern Nigeria (Jos, plateau state) which was
716km away to begin business. Mama traded in textiles, food items and traditional alcoholic beverage (ogogoro).
Mama found big success in business and lived in northern Nigeria for many years and even learned to speak
very fluent Hausa language earning her the affectionate nick name 'Mama Hausa'. Mama's trade took her around
the country from Onitsha, to agbor, lagos, warri, Jos, kaduna, kano, bauchi, gombe, maiduguri. She embodied
resilience and self determination. Mama left an indelible mark wherever she lived her. She was the
example of the virtuous woman referred to in proverb 31:10-31."Her own works praise her in the gates."
Mama understood the vital importance of education despite missing out on having a formal education due to
cultural circumstances. Mama did not fail to chastise her grandchildren and other peoples children if she thought
they were not taking their academics seriously. Her life was a beacon of strength, piety and philanthropy.
She gave generously and led by example and her faith in God was always unshakable. she was extremely strict,
morally upright and highly influential amongst the youths in the community. Her life was a testament to the
enduring role of women in society.
Mama was blessed with a very long and eventful life. At 108yrs mama surpassed her own mother
who lived to 106yrs. After an illustrious life, mama peacefully transited in her sleep on the morning of 18th
October 2025. Mama Unushemi Osegba’s memory will continue to inspire us. She will be deeply missed
but will always be remembered. May her beautiful and kind soul rest in the bosom of the Lord amen.

You had such a lovely spirit, and it was clear how much love you cared for your family. I feel grateful to have met you, even if only for a short time.
May your soul rest in perfect peace. You will be fondly remembered.
Today, we honour and celebrate the extraordinary life of our beloved aunty, a cherished Grande Dame of the Ejohwomu Royal Family, who was blessed with the remarkable gift of 108 years. She lived a long and fulfilling life, passing peacefully in her sleep, leaving behind a legacy of strength, grace, and wisdom.
She was our father’s only remaining surviving sister, a deeply valued link to our family’s history and heritage. Until her passing, she held the revered title of Ada (the oldest woman of Umiaghwa Abraka Kingdom) carrying with dignity the traditions, values, and cultural identity of our people. Her presence embodied history, wisdom, and continuity across generations.
Throughout her life, she exemplified resilience, humility, and compassion. Her words were filled with wisdom, her actions reflected kindness, and her life stood as a powerful example of dedication to family and community. She nurtured relationships, upheld traditions, and reminded us all of the importance of unity and respect.
As an aunty, she was more than family she was a pillar, a custodian of our paternal family history, and an inspiration. Her laughter, stories, and gentle strength will forever remain in our hearts.
Though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in every life she touched and in the values she instilled in us. We are grateful for her long and meaningful life and for the honour of calling her ours.
May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may her memory continue to guide and bless the Ejohwomu Royal Family and the Umiaghwa Abraka Kingdom for generations to come.

This is truly one of the most heartfelt tributes we have written in a long time.
Mama, as we fondly called her, stood as a pillar among us—the oldest in our church community for many years. She carried a rare grace: a detribalized spirit, a large and compassionate heart, and a remarkably sharp memory even in her advanced age. Her presence was wisdom, her words were seasoned, and her life was a testimony of quiet strength and fulfillment.
Her kind is rare. She lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously. The world has indeed lost an angel—one divinely sent to Oria Village in the Abraka Kingdom.
Sleep well, Mama. Your legacy lives on in every life you touched.

How do I begin to speak of a woman who's presence defined my life from birth? A bond that words alone cannot capture, I write therefore with a heart full of gratitude to have had such a G-'mother' Mama wasn't just a grandmother or a mother's mum she was to me my very own mother being a 1st child to her only child, mama treated me as her child number two 2!
Mama was a huge blessing to me, she gave me love, she was an inspiration to me, mama made sacrifices for me, disciplined me as she was a very strict and upright but very loving soul, she'd use the wip when she had to and then celebrate me with rewards when she thought I'd earned it, she was my always teacher, role model, and guide, I am who I am today cause mama stood by and with me my all time director, mama poured her all . Not only was mama loving and caring she was hardworking and industrious and she ensured that robbed off on everyone that crossed her path. Her words of advice will always remain indelible in my heart what a 'mother' Mama was also a go getter, very strong willed and very unassuming attributes I'm learning to copy, need I mention that mama was a most generous giver virtue my class mates in the university looked forward to whenever she sent me bush meat, she was sure to parcel some for my close friends with the instructions this one belongs to so and so she knew them all by names welcomed them for holidays and treated them as family she really was very involved in her children's life
For me mama will be greatly missed for while the pain of of absence remains immense the love she gave me will forever LIVE in my heart and while she may be gone the legacy she left in me all the moments and years spent with her will forever be cherished and will continue to guide me as I'll miss you dearly beloved grandma.
Rest well mother dearest, my beloved grandma, may your soul find peace and succour in God's eternal presence beloved ' GRAND MOTHER"
