Obituary

With deep love and gratitude, we remember Marilyn Hedges, a kind, beautiful, and loving woman whose life was defined by connection, courage, and love.

She was the heart of our family — a devoted partner to Mike Hughes, loving mother to Janice, Karen (Dan), Sharon (Mike) and John, fond sister to Jack and Victor, cherished aunt to Joanne, Danny and Karyl, adoring grandmother to Sarah, Billy, Katelyn, Rebecca, Michael, Aidan, Liam, John, Ella and great-grandmother to Amara, Keira, Xavier, Ava and William. Her family love extended beyond bloodlines to include Brendan, Liz, Clara, Anna and Tosha.

She had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome and seen. Gatherings, shared meals, laughter, and stories were her greatest joys, and her presence turned ordinary moments into lasting memories.

She was fearless and adventurous, never afraid to try something new. She loved to travel, always curious and open to new experiences. She explored the world, returning home to share her experiences about the people she met and cultures she took time to learn. She made friends everywhere she went.

Her life was not a straight line, she rebuilt it several times, bravely following her passions and trusting her instincts. Her strength and resilience were a quiet lesson to all who knew her: it is never too late to begin again.

Above all, she loved deeply. Her kindness, warmth, and generous spirit will live on — in her family, her friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed her path.

She will be profoundly missed and remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely.

When I was little, I would get dropped off for Grandma camp where we spent most days playing Mexican train, seeing a movie at the Edmonds theater, or getting lunch at Thai Cottage. She taught me the importance of unconditional love, compassion, patience, and quality time. I will forever hold her deep in my heart for the thoughtful memories and love she provided me and many others. Love you Grandma.

What an incredible person. Loving. Kind. Thoughtful. Caring. And a great story teller. We loved hearing about her trips with Mike. She will be greatly missed. It is up to all of us to cherish the memories. RIP, dearest Marilyn.
