I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Obituary
Lois Craig - loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister - passed away in Harbor City, California on Saturday, May 18, 2024. She was 89 years old.
Born on August 2, 1934, in Pensacola, Florida, Lois Marie Richardson was the youngest of eight children. While a student at Washington High School, Lois met and later married the boy next door - James "Julius Herzfeld" Leverett. They were blessed with five children Judson, Brandon, Kathy, Stan, and Scott.
As a military wife, Lois traveled to all corners of the United States and also lived in Germany where her youngest son Scott was born.
In the early 70s, Lois settled in Los Angeles, California. She married Matthew Craig in 1975 and spent 47 years together. They shared so much joy over the years... spending time with their grandkids, watching old westerns on TV, and most of all - they loved the Lord. Lois's life was defined by her faith. Throughout the 80s and 90s, she was a devoted member of the New Creation Christian Faith Center where she served as an usher and was honored with the Divine Servant Award. Lois was such a big believer in the power of prayer that church members often sought her out for prayer. Her generosity was endless; "doing God's work" as a volunteer in kitchens that provided meals to the homeless. And if Lois had only ten dollars, she'd give one dollar to someone in need.
Lois found humor in so many ways and enjoyed entertaining everyone with stories of her days growing up in Pensacola where she said "Daddy was so poor, sometimes all we had for dinner was Ritz Crackers." On better days, she said it was a can of Spaghettio's. It's no wonder that on many nights - at dinner time - Lois found excuses to visit her big sister Janie McKee. Lois also loved hanging out with her niece Delores. As young teens, they would bust open watermelons that grew in her daddy's field, eating and laughing all the while.
Lois worked various jobs over the years and settled on studying professional hair care to become a barber. After retiring in the late 90s, she focused on home and church.
Lois was blessed with a large, loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Matthew St Aubyn Craig, her parents King and Mandy Richardson, nieces Delores Burnett, Donna Hayes, and nephew Robert Byrd.
Lois is survived by her children Judson Leverett, Brandon Leverett, Kathy Leverett, Stan Leverett, and Scott Leverett, the children of her blended family Randolph Craig, Dawn Robbins, Jennifer Brotherton, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces including Gloria Kennedy, Beverly Staten, and Karen Shumate, nephews including Perry McKee, family friend Harry Sawyer and her beloved sister Louella Byrd.
Lois Marie Richardson Leverett Craig. She lived for 89 years with love, laughter, and amazing grace. May grace now lead her home.
