Obituary
Today we celebrate the life of Lise Yvonne Bélanger who passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024 at the age of 73, after a lengthy illness. Lise was the loving mother of Annick (Greg), Karine (Jeff), and Frederic (Jen); proud Grand-Maman to Evan, Alexander, Alina, and Cora; sister to Martin; aunt to Louise, Renaud, and Pierre; and great aunt to Cyril. She is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Pauline Bélanger.
Born on April 10, 1951, Lise spent her early life in Montreal with her brother Martin. From a young age she was known as a talented ballet dancer, gracing the stage with elegance and beauty through her teenage years.
Driven by a curiosity for the world, Lise travelled extensively and lived and raised her children on several continents, calling Paris, Dubai, San Francisco, Calgary and eventually Oakville home. Her experiences abroad shaped her worldview and enriched her understanding of different cultures. Her roots in Montreal and time in Paris imbued her with a sense of style and a lifelong passion for French food and cooking.
In her later years, Lise embarked on a new chapter, pursuing a career in education. Armed with determination and resilience, she returned to university to obtain her bachelor’s degree and teaching credentials from University of Toronto, eventually becoming a beloved French Immersion teacher for many years at W.I. Dick middle school in Milton. Her dedication to her students extended beyond the classroom as she took the helm as lead director in numerous school plays and musicals.
Above all, Lise cherished her role as grandmother to her four grandchildren and as a beloved aunt and great-aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Lise’s family would also like to thank several people who supported Lise during the final months of her illness: Dr. Kazem and Dr. Brush who provided compassionate palliative care; Sandeep, her long-time caregiver; her wonderful PSWs; and the excellent staff & volunteers of Ian Anderson House.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ian Anderson House residential hospice ( https://www.ianandersonhouse.com/donate ), Canadian Lung Association ( https://www.lung.ca/donate ), or a charity of your choice are appreciated, reflecting Lise's compassionate nature and desire to give back. As per her wishes, her children and their families will gather privately at a future date to honour her memory.
Lise Belanger's journey may have come to an end, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, forever remembered for her grace, resilience, and love.
