Obituary

Lindsey Stoughton Braun passed away at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on January 11, 2026.
She was born on April 23, 1997, at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY, to Michaele and Scott Stoughton. Always playful and curious, she spent much of her childhood climbing things she wasn’t supposed to, playing all kinds of games, and performing constantly, whether singing, dancing, or both. She loved video games from a young age and would often enjoy playing alongside her older sister, Alexis (Lexi).
Lindsey’s music career flourished in her teenage years as she taught herself guitar, took voice lessons, and began performing any and everywhere she could. Between open mic nights, karaoke competitions, and recording sessions, she tugged at many heartstrings with the incredible raw emotion she imbued in her performances.
Lindsey met her husband, Aiden, in February of 2020, and they decided to quarantine together the following month. Both agreed it was the best decision they could have made. They weathered many storms during their years together, and Lindsey’s cancer diagnosis was no different. The two were true soulmates, both bound by fate and forever connected through the love and care they poured into their relationship.
Lindsey studied video game programming in college at SNHU, graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Game Programming and Development in June 2023. She worked on countless projects with peers, did some freelance website design, and took a few other jobs before settling at SUNY Broome in IT last May. She truly enjoyed working there and especially loved her coworkers whose support gave her inspiration and comfort.
A celebration of life will be held on March 21, 2026, at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Young Tongues Global, a charity dedicated to supporting young people with tongue cancer. The group and its members were incredibly helpful to Lindsey following her cancer diagnosis.
Lindsey will live on in all those who were lucky enough to meet her and be touched by her radiance. Let us follow her example and do our best to be a little more patient, understanding, and compassionate. Let us also continue to play and have fun, just like she would want us to.

I was blessed to be Lindsey's art teacher at Evertech High School for 4 years. She was always such a joy, and I have many wonderful of working with Lindsey, especially on community service projects. My favorite memories include her vocal performances for the Evertech Talent Shows. Usually Lindsey was very quiet in classes, so hearing her powerful, beautiful singing voice was always so inspiring! Lindsey was also a talented artist and excellent student. Her kindness and compassion was a blessing to staff and students at Evertech. My heart and prayers continue to be with Aiden, her family and friends. Lindsey, thank you for sharing your gifts with the world - you made it a happier, more beautiful and gentler place! You will be dearly missed!

A snap from playing a John Dee game with my dad, so of course we had to wear the silly hats (and drink baja blast)

When Lindsey first came to me for voice lessons, I saw her as a quiet, shy, sweet soul. The moment she opened her mouth in song, she completely blew me away!!! She channeled her passion via her soulful voice with pure emotion that could make listeners weep. I looked forward to our sessions together and the performances where she made lasting impressions. I will never not think about our time together and what a beautiful impact she had on those who were lucky enough to have heard and experienced her. ♥️

This picture is from the day after our wedding; I bought us matching shirts to wear and I loved wearing them for any special occasions after that, too. We often got compliments on these. It felt extra fun because of the tie to gaming, and Pac-Man is a game we played at a few different arcades in our early dating days.

I got to meet Lindsey in the best possible way someone does as an adult - Aiden had only just gotten to know me, and proceeded to plop me down to meet his wife because he knew we'd get along, and he was SO right. It felt a little like cheating not having to do any work to get to meet someone so wonderful and easy to vibe with. I will always wish for more time to have gotten to know each other, but I will also be endlessly grateful that I got the chance to know Lindsey at all, and I will forever think of her when simming 💛💛💛

Lindsey insisted on taking a photo with Geoffrey the day of her tongue biopsy, during which the doctor said she was pretty confident it was cancer, because she thought it would be funny to look back at. I am so in awe of her ability to find the joy, the levity, the humor in any situation. Words can't convey how much I love and miss her.

Lindsey was a bright light in anyone's life. I'm so glad and grateful I got to spend time with her and get to know her more and more. Lindsey, Aiden and I would hang out, we played board games, and the one time Lindsey and I had a girls night. I didn't know I needed it, but I was so glad I was able to connect with her that way. That night felt... affirming, loving, fun.. One of the very few people I could call a true friend. She listened, she was accepting, kind, considerate and thoughtful. That night we painted our nails and gabbed about everything under the sun and I *so* wish we had gotten to do more of those nights like we wanted to. It has been and will be my favorite memory with her

Lin and our cat, Otto, were instant friends. Every time Lin was here, it was easy to find Otto because he was with her. I constantly sent her photos of Ottos doing anything around the house and I am keeping up with that tradition. I miss her so much.

I worked with Lindsey in ITS at SUNY Broome. I didn’t get to know her as well as I wished, we always think there‘s plenty of time. She had a lovely smile and I enjoyed working with her. Her sweet presence will be greatly missed and I pray she is at peace. 💜

I'm so sad I only got to spend a bit of time with Lindsey because it didn't take much quality time to realize she was truly an incredible person.

I loved going out to places and running into Lindsey and Aiden. I loved board games, video games, and more with them.

While the outcome of who won might not have always been consistent, you could always guarantee one thing. Every time like clockwork you would see Lindsey's smile light up the room or hear her laugh bring on a smile all your own.

I am truly devastated to hear of her passing. My heart breaks for all that knew her closer and loved her. It's lovely to see the memories you all carry have that same energy her smile carried :)
