We never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to live in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love is in our hearts and imprint in our memories. So hold tight to memories for comfort, lean on your family and friends for strength, and always remember how much you are loved.
Obituary
Laura Lee Squiers passed away on December 29, 2024, at the young age of 74.
Laura truly lived her life to the fullest. Born in Detroit, MI, she spent her early years moving with her family across the US before resettling back in Dearborn, MI. She held degrees from both Michigan State University (Bachelor in Art and Teaching) and Eastern Michigan University (Master in Education), which brought her to many classrooms and to meet her husband during student teaching. Though she spent decades dedicating her talents to growing young minds, her true passion was art. Her talents stretched across all mediums and art forms, and her work will forever grace the walls of her close family and friends.
She and John gave everything they had to give a magical childhood at their Lake Shannon home to their 4 children (and their many extended “children”). She then achieved her lifelong goal after retirement of building the home of her and John’s dreams in Boyne City, Michigan. It is there that she continued to expand her positive impact, making new friendships, joining the board of the local library, and contributing to local art groups.
Her smile was sunshine and warmed every room that she entered. When she was with you, she made you feel seen and like you were the center of the universe. Although Laura is gone, she will forever live on in the hearts of all of us.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mary Lou Sherf and her brother, Paul Christopher Sherf. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John C Squiers IV; her children J. Cole Squiers V (Adrienne), Amanda Helm (Brian), Jana Gray (Marc), and Justin Squiers (Melissa); and her ten grandchildren Jack and Kellen Squiers, Sydney, Taylor and Owen Helm, Elle, Lucas and Beau Gray, and Sadie and Clayton Squiers.
Plans to celebrate Laura’s life with her many friends near and far are in the works, and we will share those details as they are finalized. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please take this moment to reach out to someone you know who, like Laura, shines a light on your life and tell them what they mean to you. She would have loved to know the world is shining a little brighter because of her.

& Brother John,
My heart has been breaking for all of you these past few weeks. As far as words, they are tucked in your hearts forever, as it is for me for the ones I've lost.
It will take time, each one of you will grieve in your own way. Love each other and your Dad as if your life depended on it. It does!
I wish I could do more to help you all...my Thoughts and prayers are with you always.
With all my love, Aunt Karen
