Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Larry Unterseher on the 22nd of July, 2024, in Eureka, CA. Larry was born on May 25, 1951, and led a life full of energy, love, and joy that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Larry's vivacious and quirky (in the best way) personality was infectious to those around him. He was outgoing, always willing to strike up a conversation, and was a friend to all who met him. His door was always open, and he made everyone he talked to feel welcome and loved. He took many minutes to tell you ALL the stories. :)

Larry was an incredible man who imparted valuable lessons of patience, forgiveness, and grace to those around him. He believed in the power of understanding, the strength of patience, and the importance of sharing God’s grace with everyone he came into contact with. Through his actions and words, he instilled these values into not only his family but also his wider circle of friends and acquaintances.

Larry was deeply committed to supporting small schools in the Northern California Conference. Besides his kids and grandkids, the work he did for them is undoubtedly one of his greatest accomplishments. He was a strong believer in nurturing young minds and championed the cause of offering high-quality Christian education to all who would seek it. He was passionate about sharing the message of grace with everyone he met. His life's work was to inspire others, especially students, to embrace the transformative power of grace in their lives.

Larry left behind an enduring legacy of kindness and friendship, and his memory will continue to inspire us all. His love for life, passion for helping others, and his joyful spirit made him not only a great man but also the best dad and grandpa anyone could ask for.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Unterseher; daughter, Kim Espinoza and her husband, Alex Espinoza; son, Mike Unterseher and his wife, Emily Unterseher; grandsons, Austin and Aaron Espinoza, Jake and Ben Unterseher; and sister, Jeanie Rindahl. His love, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his loved ones. We are comforted in knowing that Larry's spirit will live on through the many hearts he touched.

My memories of Larry are also of Rhonda. The two of them together were amazing friends and role models of the God I serve. The understanding love and acceptance that was shown by them was always so timely. I believe that we can be Jesus to those around us and on many occasions I was blessed by their Christ like personality’s. Sleep well Larry until Jesus comes and says, come on Larry, time to come home.

I will always remember Larry for the many years we worked together in the Montana Conference. He was so upbeat and cheerful, a positive influence in every situation. My love goes out to Rhonda, Kim, and Mike.

I first met Larry while I was in college with Kim. He came to watch a basketball game and I can’t say for sure how it happened but we ended up sitting on the floor of the gym and talking about life for at least an hour. He was SO engaging and so kind and cared so much for the life of someone he had never met before that day. He made a huge impression on me.

Every time I saw him after that day, he remembered all the details we shared and routinely checked in on me.

I was so thrilled when I learned he would become part of my extended family and be father-in-law to my brother.

I truly feel honored and thankful for all the times I was able to spend time with Larry.

He will never be forgotten.

Larry was a thoughtful and caring son-in-law devoted to God, family and his church. He often would visit us and bring milkshakes to share as we sat and talked. We will miss greatly his spontaneous “drop in” to chat and bring cheer to us. Larry was always willing to be of help to us and many others. Till we meet again.
