Obituary

LLarry Alvin Brooks was born on May 17th, 1952, and departed his untimely death on January 8th, 2025. Larry was the son of Georgia (JoAnne) Brooks and Alphonso Richmond. Larry was raised in Oakland, California, by his mother and stepdad
Morris McJimsey.

Larry attended school in the Oakland Unified District. He showed independence at a very young age, and was fondly called, “Larry with the gift of gab”. He always enjoyed laughing and telling stories and memories from the past.
Larry welcomed a Son, Larry Jr., in 1986 and later married Joyce Davis, who had a daughter, Danielle Nicole Pierre-Louis who became Larry’s daughter.

Larry always desired to be the chief in charge and create jobs for others. He became a prosperous entrepreneur in the logistics industry. He had several owner-operator contracts and his own company, Larry’s Movers. His Son had a major role that contributed to the business's success. Larry’s Movers supported the community by offering gainful employment to those needing a second chance in life. This supported many people and their families. In 2017 Larry became disabled from an accident, but he still desired to return to running his business. Though he wasn’t able to work, he provided his knowledge to entrepreneurs in the industry.

Larry leaves in remembrance of his life, wife Joyce Brooks, son Larry Brooks Jr., daughter Danielle Pierre Louis, grandchildren; Ryland Pierre Simon, and Drue LaBelle Simon; sisters Elaine Reaves, Pamela (William) Savoy, brother Norris (Willisha) McJimsey; additional sisters Bonnie (Joe) Johnson, Sheila Jones, Alfreda (Ricky) Porter and with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Larry was preceded in Death by his beloved sister Anita Richmond.
