Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, Jimmy Phillips. Jimmy was a devoted father to his sons, Devin and Clayton, and his daughter, Rori Phillips. He is survived by his brothers, John, Clifford, Stuart (Cathy), Anthony, and his sisters, Iris (Philip) Lahey, Debbie Spencer, Jennifer (Cyril) Thomas, and Gail Phillips. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each holding a special place in his heart. Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Reta Phillips, and brothers, Wallace and Robert Phillips. Jimmy moved to Toronto from Mira, Cape Breton Island, with his brothers at a young age. He worked for over 40 years at Tritan Restoration. Later, as a foreman, his sons joined him at Tritan and learned the restoration trade. His co-workers and many friends in the Toronto and Mira area will greatly miss him. He will be remembered for his hard-working nature, kind-heartedness and deep love for his home and children. The twinkle in his eye and his sense of humour will not be forgotten by those who knew him well. His family would like to thank everyone for their generous donations in support of his children. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. You left us too soon, but we will always carry you in our hearts. Rest in peace, our dear brother.

My Name is Dennis. Back in 1997 Jimmy was one of my first formen working in the restoration industry. He was one of the hardest working men i know. It was a privilege to work and learn from him,like so many others he helped in the industry. I would like to express my deepest condolences to all of his family.

I haven't seen Jimmy since we were teenagers at the Gut. Some of my favorite memories of those days have Jimmy front and center. He was a friend you could count on. It is heart breaking to know that he is gone. Even though I haven't seen him for 40 years the news of his passing struck me hard. Jimmy mattered. My condolences to his family, cherish the time you shared.

In so sad to hear of Jimmy's passing. My heart goes out to Anthony, Stuart, Cathy, Johhny, Blair and Clifford (the Phillips family I knew way back then). I'm so sad for the family and for Jimmy's kids, who I don't know. I'm also sad for Jimmy. I couldn't know he was suffering. I met Jimmy in 1986 and was taken by his bright blue eyes, long curly hair, gap-toothed smile and infectious laugh. He was so sweet but we were both young and doing the wrong things in life. We were together for four years and when it ended, neither of us looked back but I often wondered about him. In the 34 years since we broke up, I looked for him on social media from time to time to see if he found his place. I wanted to see signs that he was happy in life. I knew he'd married and had kids. I didn't know anything else. Anthony told me today of Jimmy's passing and I've been haunted by it. I know how devastated Jimmy's family is. Rest in peace sweet soul. You were loved.

My sincere heartfelt condolences to all of Jimmy's family and friends. Spent a lot of time with him & the Mira Gut crew back in the day. Can't help but remember Jimmy's distinct grin and chuckle !! Sharing a pic of Jimmy and Wayne MacKenzie from 1981. RIP dear old friend. ❤️
