Obituary
Kelly Ramon Scott, born October 4, 1952 passed away on October 10, 2024 at the age of 72.
He died of natural causes and passed peacefully in his sleep. Kelly is survived by his wife of 50
years, Debbie, daughter Erin, son Cody and his wife Brandi, grandchildren Kaylee and Kaden,
older brother Paul, and nephew Will. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Glynna
Scott. Kelly was born in Sacramento, California, and resided for the last 47 years in Wilton,
California.
Kelly graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1970 and went on to attend Cosumnes
River College where he earned an associate’s degree in Agricultural Business, then Cal Poly
San Luis Obispo where he completed a certificate program to become a farrier. He was self-
employed for many years doing horseshoeing and cattle hoof-trimming. He also worked as a
millwright at Elk Grove Milling for 35 years before officially retiring in 2014, however, that
didn’t keep him away. Kelly still made frequent trips out to the mill to have coffee with the guys,
check in on the latest project, or offer his expertise on fixing something.
Kelly was what many referred to as a “real cowboy.” He loved being out on a ranch, riding his
horse or mule, and gathering cattle. He was almost never seen without his cowboy hat and
boots on. Kelly enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also a talented mechanic and craftsman
who was known to be able to fix or build anything. He was a welder and enjoyed making things
out of metal. After he retired, most days you could find him out tinkering in his shop; he always
had a project he was working on.
Kelly was a faithful Christian and churchgoer. He was previously a long-time member of 14th
Avenue Baptist church in Sacramento. Kelly and Debbie, who both began attending church
there as children with their families, were later married in the church, and Kelly served as a
deacon there for many years. He was also involved with the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys,
and most recently, was a member of Rancho Murieta Community Church. He was never shy
about sharing his faith, talking about the Bible, or offering to pray for someone. One of his
favorite passages was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on
your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Kelly will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but those that knew him best will find
comfort knowing that he is at home with the Lord and rejoicing in heaven!
