Dear Pastor Richard and family,

I was heartbroken to hear about your loss. I received Jesus as my Savior with Mrs. Hester in Rasmaska. I'm sure she is enjoying her Lord's presence now. My deep condolences to you and your daughters Melody and Cherline.
Praying that God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding, comforts you in this time of loss.
May He with his touch give you comfort and hope.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." – John 14:27

My dear Brother Richard,

My heart goes out to you in the homegoing of your precious Kathleen. I have so many memories that cast long shadows back to our youthful days at BBC and beyond. Those are precious memories full of anticipation of what God would do with our lives in His service.

You and Kathleen have been faithful in following our Lord's direction to the uttermost parts of the earth. Jesus has led both of you and accompanied you all the way. Now she accompanies Him in His very presence.

I have reflected on your friendship and your ministry so many times over these years. Thank you for continuing to stay in touch with your newsletters. With this communication you have kept me company more times than you were ever aware.

Thank you for your faithfulness to our Lord and His Written Word. Now Kathleen has heard His spoken Word - in person.

God bless and comfort you, my dear friend,

Dear Pastor Hester,
We were saddened by the sad news about the promotion of sister Kathleen to glory. Of course, this is far better to be with the Lord, but for you to lose your other half, after decades you spent together in the ministry of our Lord Jesus. It must be a hard experience. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy and deep condolences in Christ. We pray the Lord will comfort your heart with His spirit and grace. We are all looking forward to the time when we will meet our loved ones near the throne of our Redeemer Jesus in heaven. May the Lord strengthen you to continue serving Him until He comes on the clouds in might and glory.
Blessings in Christ,
Pierre Francis

Song I wrote in memory of Mrs. Hester.

"Running to Jesus"

Verse 1
After all I've faced
By His mercy and grace
My journey to glory complete
Now I'm walking on that street of gold
And His promises I now behold
Every word is true and it's more than I was told.
Chorus
I'm running to Jesus
And there is nothing
That can stand in my way
I'm running to Jesus
To the Lamb who made a way for me
I'm running to Jesus.

Verse 2
Oh the joy I've found
As His glory surrounds
I'll be worshiping forevermore
With the angels and redeemed of old
Every promise was and is now fulfilled
What a Saviour! He's more than I was told.
Chorus
I'm singing to Jesus
And there is nothing
That can stand in my way
I'm singing to Jesus
To the Lamb who made a way for me
I'm singing to Jesus.

Verse 3
Now the work is done
And the victory is won
I'm rejoicing in the Saviour's love
Every trial I endured below
Led me here where His glory overflows
I will praise Him for the grace that brought me home.
Chorus
I'm home with Jesus
In His presence
Where no sorrow can stay
I'm home with Jesus
I'm with the one
Who wiped my tears away.

I'm running to Jesus
I'm singing to Jesus
I'm home with Jesus
I'm home with Jesus.

Dear Brother Hester,
I heard the news that dear Mrs. Hester has gone to be with the Lord. I am so sorry for your loss but rejoice with you that her face beholds the Saviour's face now. You have been a wonderful model of marriage to the glory of God. Sadly, there aren't many couples with such a testimony as you both have had. Praise the Lord for your caring for your dear wife for quite some time now. I will be praying for you at this time.
Much love in Christ,
Melanie

(The way I remember) My brother-in-law, Doyle Hopper was a pastor and would take Richard Hester with him to lead music while he preached. My husband, Dwight and I would tag along sometimes. One night they held a service in Leon, KS and in the crowd was Kathleen. I think that is the first time Richard and Kathleen met. Through the years we became great friends with Richard and Kathleen and have enjoyed so many wonderful times with them, Melody and Shirlene. The girls stayed with us while Richard and Kathleen would go on their deputation visits to all the churches that supported them. I was so honored that Kathleen (and Richard) would trust us to take care of there girls while they were visiting. It was a true honor for me. On a lighter note, Kathleen and Dwight would have a great time teasing each other. Kathleen knew how to put Dwight in his place and Richard and I would just laugh at that sight. I love you all. - Pat

I first met the Hesters when I was 9 years old as they got off the ship in Beirut, Lebanon. From that time on our families became very, very close in friendship and fellowship both in Lebanon and in the USA as well as phone contact with them in Australia. I have many memories of our times in each other’s homes, churches, camp ministries, etc. I always looked forward to going to their home in Tripoli where Mrs. Hester made the most delicious casseroles - my favorites. She amazed me with all of her talents - playing the organ, homeschooling, ministering to the women and children in Arabic, sewing, etc. We loved to hear her tell how she and Bro. Hester met and their love story. She was an amazing missionary wife, mother, grandmother and there was no doubt of her love for her husband and her family. I cherish my pictures and memories of the Hester Family. We love you all and are continuing our prayers for you.

Mrs. Hester had so many graces and virtues about her, but two, in particular, stand out to me, and I will not soon forget them. The first (and it may seem odd to you that it is a favourite memory), is one year at an NBF when she spoke seriously and tactfully at one of the ladies sessions about “the birds and the bees,” STIs and what the Bible has to say about sexuality. It showed how much she cared about young ladies and that she wasn’t afraid to talk about the awkward things if that’s what the Lord was leading her to do. She really was a wonderful example of the older woman teaching the younger women.
My other favourite thing about her is how she taught us younger women by example, to love our husbands. I couldn’t help but notice how much she loved and doted on Pastor Hester. She was always so attentive to his needs and had such a servant’s heart. And it was so cute how she always matched her outfit to his (or visa versa)!

Pastor Hester, I am praying for you in your time of sorrow. May the Lord uphold you with His everlasting arms.

My condolences to Pastor Hester and his family on the passing of Mrs Hester.
I will always remember her faithfulness to the Lord and his ministry. She was the best English teacher in the world. She gave me a love for language, which aided me is learning NT Greek and Romanian.
I praise the Lord for her part in my life and ministry.

My heartfelt condolences to Richard, Shirlene, Melody and families. Though I only knew Kathleen for a brief time while working with Shirlene, I always found her to be full of love for her family and always inquisitive about the world. I had the privilege of reading about their extraordinary life and the many lives they touched.
I often think of Kathleen whenever I see a red rose, recalling the many times she dropped down with a vase full of her beloved roses. The perfume permeated through the office, lasting for days. Just one of the many little ways she showed her love for her family.
I know Kathleen's passing has left a void, and we cannot help but feel sadness, but like any farewell we can look forward to meeting again once we too return home.
If I could share an Irish proverb I read once which stayed with me ...
"Death leaves a heartache that no-one can heal. Love leaves a memory that no-one can steal."

"Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last."

When reflecting on Kathleen's life, we have always been encouraged by the great, lasting things she did for God. From faithfully ministring alongside Richard in foreign countries to raising a family to know and serve the Lord, she truly ran her race well.

While it is saddening to hear of Kathleen's passing, we draw comfort knowing she is now with the Lord. And we are more than certain that she would have received a "well done, thou good and faithful servant" when she finally met her Saviour!

My Aunt Kathleen was a wonderful aunt. When I was growing up and we would go to Laverne for the holidays,( to my grandparents )there was always a lot of joy and laughing, talking, and singing. My aunt would sometimes talk to my cousins in Arabic. I never knew if we were all in trouble or not !! But the best part was the love we had for each other and the memories of so long ago.

We met Mrs. Hester 50 years ago when she,her husband and 4 other BBF missionary couples came to Adelaide to hear Dr.W.E.Dowell preach at.my home church.
Things that Merilyn remembers about Mrs Hester include
= the significant input into my life when I was the wife of a young pastor.
=the times she stayed in our home, when we laughed, cried and prayed together.
=The year she was the guest speaker at a ladies' day in Adelaide. She arrived with an empty suitcase & left with it filled with almonds! We thought the almonds were for Pastor Hester's health, but we found out later they were for their pet cockatoo!
- Lengthy phone calls full of encouragement.
- When we were serving together at SBBC; one morning I found Mrs Hester on her hands & knees, with a pair of scissors in her hand. She was trimming the loose threads from the carpet to make it look more presentable.
The final conversation we had while we were walking through the dining room.
Mrs Hester said with a loud voice:
"Richard can neither see nor hear, but his memory is excellent. I can see and hear, but I'm losing my memory.
So,....as long as we stick together, we are a force to be reckoned with'!!!
Indeed they were!
Please be assured of our sympathy, love & prayers at this time of joy/ sorrow.
Joy in knowing that your loved one safe home in the presence of The Lord Jesus.
Sorrow in the realization that you will not see her again for a little while.
This could be the day when Jesus comes!
With love, from

I always looked forward to visiting Teta and Jiddu, or them visiting us. Although there were many reasons for that, one in particular was Teta’s penchant for hiding little gifts all over the place – in her house, in our house, anywhere, really. More often than not, the gifts were books, though sometimes they were other little trinkets us children found delightful. You might walk into the room at some point in the day and Teta would suddenly say “You’re very cold…” And you would know, the game was on! Teta would become so animated as we shuffled around, looking under pillows, behind dressers, under the bed, on top of the wardrobe. “Warmer… colder… Freezing! Burning!!!” until we inevitably found the prize wrapped in gift wrap. Teta found so much joy in sharing books with us in this way, and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that my sister and I are now life-long bookworms! In this way, and so many others, Teta demonstrated such a heart of love and care for us, that really was a reflection of her love and care for the Lord. I thank God for the lovely example he provided for us through her life and rejoice that she is now at home with Him.

My Teta was an amazing woman. Everything she did, she did wholeheartedly to glorify God. She loved Jiddu sacrificially and when I was younger, she would tell me how to be a good wife when I grew up and got married. She gave the best hugs, contributed to my large library (and of course my love of reading), and loved to hear me play my instruments. The last time I saw her, I played several piano pieces over and over, and she loved it every time. I will greatly miss her!!

My son, Alexander is going to miss having Mrs Hester in the car on Sunday mornings when he goes for the drives to pick up Pastor and Mrs Hester for church. They developed a bond from when he was a baby, and continued while I was pregnant with Gabriel until I couldn’t fit in the car any longer with you all. She would entertain him and play peek-a-boo with him and he would chat away to her while she would be amazed at how well he spoke for his age. Those drives were special to me too when I was able to be there. Mrs Hester would always tell Matt how lucky he was to have me and she always made me laugh. I’ll always remember the prizes she used to give with Sunday school awards, and the special birthday cake tin with candles and making us spit out our gum before every class! The girls Bible studies in Croydon park were extra special and she taught us things that have stuck with me to this day. I also loved how much she loved wearing such bright, vibrant colours! It’s such a blessing that we have so many wonderful memories with her as young children, as adults, and now with my own children too. We are grateful for the time we got to have with her and look forward to seeing her again. We love you Pastor and Mrs Hester and so grateful to the Lord for your ministry and example.

I first met Mrs Kathleen Hester in 2013 when visiting the church in search of a new fellowship. Kathleen was excited about my maiden name (Mahboub) and was eager to let her husband know, but warned me that his memory was becoming frail. I said that was OK. Kathleen tapped Pastor on the shoulder and he turned around from those who were talking to him. Kathleen introduced me and promptly told Pastor my maiden. That was as far as we got as there were so many people clamouring to talk with him. I sensed Kathleen was a bit embarrassed so I told her something like, 'Don't worry, it's OK. It is obvious he is well loved'.
That was the last time I saw her, until I came back in January of this year. Over the years I had often thought of her and Pastor Richard Hester and wondered how they were. Upon returning to FBC I wondered if either of them would be alive. Well, they were and although happy about this I was shocked to see the one whom I thought would still be up and about was in a wheelchair and her husband though frail was the one getting about. Of course it was with great fondness I went up to them after the service to greet them and introduce myself. Of course neither remembered me, our first encounter was so brief. But to me it was special. When news came through that Kathleen had gone to be with the Lord I could not help but weep, yet grateful she was with our Lord. Life can be very strange and yet a brief encounter meant so much. I praised God right there and then that after the service I met her at the door where I said hullo to her before leaving, I believe I even gently stroked the side of her face. My Lord has left me with a beautiful picture of her lovely face in my mind, just as he did the last time I saw mum before she passed away. God is so good to us! Just think, now I see her with her beautiful face looking from heaven waiting for her loved ones to join her. Thank you Jesus.

Dear Pastor Hester,

My deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your beloved wife. I want to express my heartfelt sympathy and prayers for comfort, love, and strength during this difficult time.

I had the honour of knowing Mrs. Hester during my time at Sydney Bible Baptist College, where she was my teacher. She carried herself with such grace, dignity, and honor. Even though teaching a group of young men was no easy task, she was always up for the challenge.

I remember one day in her class when my laughter got the better of me, and I couldn’t compose myself. Mrs. Hester, in her firm yet gentle way, asked me to step out into the hallway until I could regain control. Looking back, I deserved it, and I’ll always remember the warmth and wisdom she brought to every moment—even in discipline, she was fair and kind.

Mrs. Hester’s smile, her warmth, and her welcoming soul will remain etched in my heart. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. She was a shining example of a loving, faithful partner, standing by your side with unwavering strength until her final breath.

Thank you, Mrs. Hester, for the impact you had on so many lives, including mine. Thank you for the legacy of love and faith you leave behind. Your light will continue to shine through those you touched so deeply.

In her honour, I’d like to share this poem, which I hope brings some comfort to you and your family:

God’s Garden
By Anonymous

God looked around His garden,
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered, “Peace be thine.”

It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

God bless you and your family during this time. May His peace surround you and may her memory be a constant source of comfort and strength.

With love and prayers,
Dany Dona and family.

Blessed to have had the influence and faithful service of the Hesters.

Vivid memories of Mrs Hester sharing with us young mum in a small play group setting her rich experiences and knowledge of the Word.
Thankful for her time and faithfulness to make time for young mums long after she had finished her season of mothering young children.

“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

What a privilege and blessing it is for me to have grown up in Faith Baptist Church under the ministry of Pastor and Mrs Hester.  Mrs Hester played an integral part in my life from the time I was a toddler up until I became a mother.

I hold the memory of sitting around her dining table for Sunday School dear to my heart. Around that table I learnt about Jesus and how to live a life of purity for Him.

Mrs Hester always made a point to "fill up a child's emotional tank" by kind words, a hug or even just a gentle squeeze of the cheek.

The lessons I learnt on godly motherhood will never be forgotten.  I would look forward to the mother's meetings where she would share what God had laid on her heart to teach young mothers about raising their family according to God's Word.

Our deepest condolences to Pastor Hester, Melody, Shirlene and the whole family. We pray that you will find peace and comfort in our Lord and Saviour.

How do you summarize in words the life of a remarkable woman and faithful servant in a few sentences? Mrs. Hester has left an indelible mark on our lives and the lives of many she encountered. She was a teacher, mentor, and maternal figure to many individuals worldwide! Her legacy, which embodies all the marks of the fruit of the Spirit, particularly her meekness and kindness, will live on through generations.

Mrs. Hester poured her heart and soul into Christ’s ministry. She was the teacher who won to the Lord and discipled Joseline at a very young age. Mrs. Hester was Nabeel’s counselor and confident. She invested in us and encouraged us to serve the Lord. She was always there to listen and give wise, godly counsel. We cherish the years we served the Lord with her and Pastor Hester; we are forever grateful for the valuable lessons she taught us and the countless ways she enriched our lives. We will never forget the Christlike spirit she expressed in loving, caring, and improving us.

As the wife of our pastor, Richard Hester, she was a pillar of support through the years of ministry. She was his eyes when he couldn’t see and his ears when he couldn’t hear. We know that his heart aches at her absence. We pray that our heavenly Father comforts you and strengthens you at this time. As we honour her memory, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, free from her illness, in the presence of her Saviour.

To Pastor Hester, You personified God’s love and exemplified Christlikeness in your ministry and family life. You asked God, and He granted you to love and care for Mrs. Hester daily, even in her illness when she did not even know you. We pray that He grants you comfort and consolation until you meet again on the clouds or in Glory Land.

To Melody and Shirlene, you are sisters to many across Lebanon, Australia, and the United States because Christ has united you with us. Thank you for sharing your parents, who became adopting parents of all whom they loved and served in the Lord.

To Shirlene and Ghassan, THANK YOU from all of us for the tender care and support you provided and continue to provide. Your labour will never be in vain in the Lord. We pray for special grace and blessings on you.

To the grandchildren and great-grandchildren: You have been loved uniquely because your grandparents' love reflected God’s love. We pray that the Lord will grant you the grace to carry the baton and run the race of life, upholding their legacy and banner of love.

Praise God for His Salvation, and the wonderful assurance we have that Mrs Hester is now rejoicing with our Lord, and that oneday there will be a joyous reunion.

Today, we honour the life and legacy of a beloved woman, a Pastor’s wife whose unwavering faith and love for the Lord forever changed my life.

At the age of 12 years old, she led me to Christ, guiding me to the foot of the cross where I found salvation and purpose. Her gentle encouragement and wise counsel taught me not only to know the Lord but to live for Him with integrity, devotion, and the utmost standards of righteousness.

A fond memory I have is serving alongside her as we ran a small woman’s Bible study group together.

She modelled what it meant to walk in faith, and her example left a mark on my heart. Her life was a reflection of Proverbs 31:26: “She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness”.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, ours among them.

We will forever be grateful for her guidance and her prayers, and her unwavering belief in the power of a life fully surrendered to Christ.

Rest in the joy of your Saviour, faithful servant. Your legacy of love and faithfulness will endure for generations to come.
