"A Towering Pillar of Strength and Love, Whose Legacy Will Never Fade"
Obituary
Karl-John Vangeloff, better known as KJ, abruptly departed this world on May 9th, 2024 from undetected lymphoma, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of kindness and inspiration. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, KJ’s journey began on November 26, 1980, in Miami Beach. Growing up in Hollywood, Florida, he later embraced Fort Lauderdale as his home when his family relocated there in 1996.
Renowned for his boundless compassion, sharp intellect, and an indomitable spirit, KJ left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His formative years at Pine Crest Preparatory School were marked by his entrepreneurial zeal, evident in the founding of the stock market club and competing in chess tournaments throughout the state. A multi-faceted individual, KJ’s love for sports was evident through his adeptness as both a pitcher and a first baseman in baseball, as well as his passion for slalom water skiing competitions. Beyond the sporting arena, he found joy in leisure activities such as bowling, ping pong, and working out, maintaining his fitness with dedication.
His quest for knowledge led him to the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where he joined Sigma Phi Epsilon. Within his fraternity, he was esteemed for fostering camaraderie among his brothers. KJ's entrepreneurial journey began with a successful vending route in greater Orlando, managing a network of 20 concession machines. Through strategic networking, he established reliable partnerships with suppliers, laying the groundwork for Primevending and satellite eBay stores. This venture marked the inception of a thriving enterprise specializing in vending equipment distribution. Expanding beyond vending, KJ diversified his business into a broader range of merchandise. He not only achieved financial success but also imparted his wisdom upon his siblings, embodying the essence of familial solidarity and mentorship. Throughout his professional career KJ demonstrated steadfast versatility, making significant contributions to the family business, Kentucky Fried Chicken, based in Michigan.
KJ found his greatest joy in the presence of loved ones, endearing himself to all with his wit and charm. Pioneering through acts of selfless service, his actions set a standard for others to emulate. Acclaimed as the ultimate prankster, he never failed to bring laughter and brighten everyone's day with a well-timed joke. Engaging in competitive games and formulating strategies were pursuits that KJ consistently enjoyed. He was admired as a pillar of strength, affectionately known as the "leader of the pack.”
KJ is survived by his devoted mother, Shirley, his beloved siblings, Erik, Kosta, Raina, Kyler, Kyra, and Sterling; half-sister Louise Pargoff; alongside a multitude of cherished friends and extended family members. He now rests in the embrace of his loving father, Karil Vangeloff, who preceded him in death in 2003, and his faithful canine companion, Nebraska.
A celebration of KJ's life will be held on September 29th at Lauderdale Yacht Club from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Best Friends Animal Society in honor of KJ's memory and his generous nature. Though KJ is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him, guiding them through life's journey.
