Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Obituary
It is with the deepest heartbreak that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Karen Overlock of Fairfield on August 1, 2025. Our mother, Karen, was one of the strongest, most courageous, toughest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as the head of our family. She was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her passing.
Karen was born to George Nutt and Carola (Vicki) Fletcher in December of 1955. She graduated from Mt View High School in Thorndike, Maine. From there she worked tirelessly to raise three children while working and maintaining her household. She worked for many years for SAS shoes in Pittsfield, Avian Farms in Waterville and retired from Lohmann Animal Health in Winslow. Karen met and then married her life partner and husband James Overlock on February 13, 2000.
Throughout her life she had many interests and hobbies. Gardening was her main passion; the floral colors she would proudly display and her vibrant pictures were comparable to those from magazines. She was eager to provide knowledge on what plant you were looking at and what varieties were available. Her love for animals was immense. She started to home older rescue horses to live out their lives, being well loved and taken care of. Sharing riding experiences with her family and making memories were incredibly important for her. After the horses became a bit too much to handle, she turned her attention to rescuing dogs. The fur babies she had lived the life of luxury and were so loved. Her current fur babies Molly, Willow and Riley will miss their loving mom. As she moved into retirement she discovered that she truly enjoyed her time sewing and making goodies for her family. She was so proud to show what new pieces she had made. She and Jim took to travelling and camping as their newest adventure. She very much loved sharing the pictures and stories of all the trips that she and Jim would take and the exciting landmarks they saw along the way.
Karen was predeceased by her mother that she loved greatly, Carola (Vicki) and stepfather Russell Bickford and her father George Nutt. She leaves behind her loving husband, James Overlock, and the five children they shared. Scott Braley and wife Kristi, Wendy Hansen and husband Mike, Michael Braley and wife Tanya, James Overlock and wife Kelly, Lindsay Twist and husband Joel. A brother Randy Nutt and his wife Joyce, sister Nicole Leclair and her husband Jim. Grandchildren Emily, Evan, Taylor, Andrea and Eric. Great grandchildren Declan, Dakota, Brayden, Easton, Chloe and Carter.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Saturday September 6th from 12-3 pm in the Pavilion at the Waterville Elks Lodge, 76 Industrial St Waterville . This is a potluck lunch and all are welcome to bring your favorite foods and goodies to share.
