I am lucky to have considered Justin a friend at medical school and in the university ultimate frisbee team. Although we lost touch laterally I always considered him kind, thoughtful, quiet, and witty. He could always be relied on and was never judgemental. I am so devastated for his wife and young daughters as well as his wider family, friends and colleagues. It is so blatantly clear from so many of these tributes that he was extremely skilled, accomplished and dedicated in many areas of his work and life although he was so humble you might not have known it from speaking with him. I am so sorry we wont have a chance to have another conversation.
Rest in peace Justin.
Your friend, Anna.

Justin was a dedicated and compassionate clinician. He had such a positive impact on so many lives and I am grateful to have met, learned from and worked with him.
My best wishes to his family and friends all over the UK.

Justin was an exceptional, caring and dedicated clinician. His patient care was exemplary. A quiet individual, with a great sense of humour.
I will remember those simple nods of the head, and that grin that would often appear.
You will be missed by so many!

I had the pleasure to meet and gotten to know Justin whilst working in LAA. An exceptional doctor who is dedicated, skillful and thoughtful.
Justin you'll be sorely missed my friend. My deepest condolences to his family.

Justin cared for other people who were experiencing the most impactful day of their lives. He did this with incredible attention to their dignity, and took away their pain. Doing this day-in, day-out, was a very significant part of his life. He always approached his work with an enviable amount of conscientiousness and thought, and with compassion. When he called for support on scene, or to share a decision, his first-class qualities as a doctor were clear. I was always reassured that Justin was there, by the side of the patient. This pride for what Justin achieved in his work surely makes grieving even harder, and finding a way forward opaque. In battling the sadness, I can only hope that Justin's family and close friends can find some strength in the care that he offered, often to strangers, the impact of which will outlast his tragically short time with us all. Thank you, Justin. GG

Justin was a beacon of selflessness, courage and dedicated to helping others this was clear from only a short period of knowing him. He was quiet but had a great sense of humour often delivering something funny followed by a glance and a smirk. His family should be incredibly proud of Justin's achievements and his memory will live on in so many ways.

I had the pleasure of seeing Justin's approach towards patients at the LAA HTC, and I remember being very impressed at how calm, competent and compassionate he was.
We have lost a wonderful doctor, and my heartfelt sympathies go to his family.

Justin forms an immutable part of my memories from our time at the University of Dundee where we studied medicine together from 2006 to 2012. His reserved personality belayed a quiet wit, and an enigmatic but adventurous disposition. Unsurprisingly given his professional trajectory, he was a member of the skydiving, paragliding, and scuba-diving societies But it is in his enthusiastic participation in the Ultimate Frisbee club: frequently driving the minibus across the country; endless nights out in fancy dress; dour weekends in drizzly fields, where so many of my fondest memories lie.
That he achieved so much in his life and met his tribe in the air ambulance community pleases me enormously.
His tragic parting has shocked me considerably and I'm truly devastated for his family.
You will be missed,
your friend

It says a lot about a person that they choose to dedicate their life to helping others. Justin's dedication was obvious and he was a quietly competent and hardworking doctor who delivered some incredible care to patients. My thoughts are with Justin's family and friends and I send my deepest condolences to you all x

I had the pleasure of working with Justin during his time with PRU, although it feels like yesterday it was in fact a couple of years ago now. I will remember him as a kind and gentle soul. A dedicated family man who was deeply passionate and serious about his work but it was when asked about his children that you could really see his eyes light up and reveal the truly lovely man he was. My sincere condolences to his wife, children and family, he will be sorely missed.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Justin firstly at EHAAT when he joined us in 2019, and subsequently when he came to the Physician Response Unit in 2021. He threw himself in to each of his clinical roles with seriousness and pride. We had many conversations, on shift or on base, about clinical challenges, emergency healthcare system transformation, landmarks of East London or Essex, or where to find free parking near a tube stop at the end of a long drive from Scotland!
He took up an invitation to join a few of us in Manchester for the HSJ Awards event in 2021, and he told fascinating stories of his childhood in Scotland. He was a principled man, with a big heart alongside an understated and soft manner. In spite of his quiet habit, he was confident to speak up and take command when a situation demanded.
In May 2020, on the 75th anniversary of VE Day, a number of us at EHAAT shared pictures of our grandfathers who had fought in the war. Justin shared that of his grandfather, F/O N.V. Wilkinson. He had gone on to become a doctor after the war. We can be certain that he would be hugely proud of the subsequent contribution that his grandson Justin would make as a highly accomplished aeromedical doctor.
So sorry for the loss of Justin, and my thoughts with those closest to him. He will be remembered fondly, and greatly missed by many.

To the family of Justin, the man who saved my life.
Words enough can’t describe what Justin did for me. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be alive today so I want you all to know how much of a hero Justin was, and not just for me but for many other patients and their families.
I had the privilege to meet him after and couldn’t thank him enough to which he said to me he was ‘just doing his job’.
I’m sorry for your loss but I hope these few words let you know the type of man he was for people like me, he gave me a second chance at life.
Rest in peace Justin, you will forever be in my memory. Hero
James Phillips (Justin’s patient at London’s Air Ambulance)
As James’ mother, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible work Dr Justin did in saving my son’s life just a few months ago. He gave us something we can never repay—a future with James that we feared we might lose. Every breath he takes is a reminder of the care, dedication, and expertise Dr Justin gave so selflessly. His impact on our lives will never fade. We will carry his memory with us always, constantly reminded of him through James. We, as a family, are heartbroken that we must now say goodbye to Dr Justin, but we will forever be thankful for the second chance you gave us. Thank you for everything.
James Phillips (Justin's patient at LAA)
I had the pleasure of working with Justin at EHAAT and we also spent time riding motorcycles on a quest for lunch on the coast. He was quite simply a lovely bloke to spend time with, on and off shift.
Last time I saw him was in passing at the RLH pad, he was with his LAA colleagues sharing that post job rush we all know so well. I remember thinking he fitted in so well.
Deepest condolences to his family and friends, he really will be missed.

Justin was endlessly dedicated to his patients with a truly enviable willingness to learn and improve. A great pre-hospital physician who will be missed by all.

I had the pleasure of working with Justin at EHAAT in 2019. Justin's dedication for his work held no bounds, even on Christmas Eve when he got a puncture on his way to work and so left the van in a layby and got a taxi the rest of the way in for his shift. I will remember him for his professionalism and his dry and witty sense of humour.
My deepest condolences to Justin's family and friends at this very sad time.

I was fortunate to work with Justin at LNAA and am deeply saddened by his passing. My thoughts are with all who knew and loved him, particularly his young family.
Justin was a great prehospital doctor and I really enjoyed working with him. Whilst he seemed reserved initially, the humour, passion and compassion mentioned repeatedly in other people's reflections and memories shone through.
Through the long drives on both the Notts car and around Lincolnshire I was privileged to have a great variety of conversations with Justin. He was always supportive and encouraging of me, made me laugh unexpectedly and taught me a great deal. I am hugely thankful for his patience with me starting out at LNAA and was always in such awe of his patient centred approach and ability to 'bring it' (for want of a better phrase) on scene. I am very sad to not have the opportunity to work and chat with him again.

2014 Feb, Justin took us diving in Loch Sunart, and we all shared a 9 man tent in the freezing cold. Very memorable trip, definitely cold but so much fun! Thank you for taking us ❤️

I had the pleasure of working with Justin at Essex and Herts Air Ambulance and more recently at London's Air Ambulance. Justin was always a really chilled and unflappable presence, very knowledgeable and experienced, our last shift together he looked after a very sick patient indeed and I'm not even sure he broke a sweat whilst doing so. He was incredibly committed to what he did and an excellent clinician, and it's just so incredibly sad he's no longer with us.

I feel privileged to have worked alongside Justin during his time at LAA. I rapidly felt a rapport with him, and immediately respected his skills, knowledge and passion in providing exceptional care to our patients. He was, and always will remain a very loved member of our HEMS family. My deepest condolences to Justin's family and friends at this very sad time.

I was fortunate to have started at LNAA about the same time as Justin and worked with him on a number of occasions. He was always a bit of a gentle giant and one with a great mind. Very talented in his field working with great compassion and skill.
This sad news has come as a complete shock to so many and my thoughts, like others, who knew him well are with his family (especially his little ones), his friends and colleagues for who he left an indelible mark forever. RIP Justin and thank you for bringing so much to so many. J

I was lucky enough to work with Justin at LAA and go through our HTC induction course together. He was a warm friendly person who slowly opened up throughout my time knowing him. I didn't get to know him long but in the short time I spent with him it was clear he was a fantastic doctor and someone everyone on base knew they could rely on. I was gutted to hear about what happened and my heart goes out to all his family and friends. We truly lost a legend

I first met Justin at EHAAT and then we both moved to LNAA.
One of the good guys who quietly went about his job , with a wickedly dry sense of humour once you got to know him.
Last met him before Christmas at a shift handover. He was telling me about his experience in London and he was on his way to a crew night out the following day.
His level of commitment to the speciality was hard to match.
Gone too soon.

It's so hard to put into words the sadness I feel about Justin's passing.
He was an intelligent and skilled doctor, deeply dedicated to his patients and to the people he worked with. I first met Justin at Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, and later had the privilege of working alongside him again at Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. We only recently walked down memory lane, sharing stories from our time with EHAAT and having a laugh together. It’s those moments I will treasure now more than ever.
I feel truly grateful to have known Justin and to have shared those chapters with him. He touched so many lives, not just as a brilliant doctor, but as a thoughtful and genuine person. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Justin throughout our time together on the PRU at LAA. We both preferred the late shift so spent many evenings on PR61 together. Not only was he an excellent Doctor to work alongside but he was a genuinely kind and sincere man with a wicked yet spontaneous sense of humour. Justin, you’ll be missed by us all, thank you for being part of our lives.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Justin's death. I have known him since we worked on PRU together in 2021 and more recently while I was on PRU and he was with London HEMS. He was kind & generous, always willing to share his wealth of clinical experience & expertise. His death is a tragedy both as a loss of a wonderful person and an excellent doctor.

I remember Justin very fondly from his time at LAA. He was quiet and considered, but always found time to reach out and ask about his patients and the follow up treatment they were receiving. He cared deeply about his work and the many lives he so positively impacted.

I met Justin last year at the beginning of his secondment at London's Air Ambulance.
It was an absolute pleasure to train alongside him at the HEMS HTC and he was an incredible source of support throughout my first few months working at the service.
I have very fond memories of our night shifts working on the HEMS car together. He had a quiet, often reserved manner (with the occasional hilarious outburst of a witty remark or joke).
His passion for pre-hospital care and dedication to excellent patient care was clearly evident at every incident we attended together.
It was a privilege to work alongside him and he will be deeply missed by all. My thoughts are with Justin's family and also colleagues who had the pleasure of working with him.

Justin joined the team at Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance in 2022, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous roles in pre-hospital care.
A quiet, thoughtful, highly intelligent colleague, Justin quickly established himself as a well-liked and respected member of the team. Beneath that seemingly introverted demeanor, those lucky enough to spend time with him found a fun, witty and loyal friend to share a shift with.
Justin was an excellent HEMS doctor. He delivered skilled care to his patients and showed compassion to their friends and relatives. It ws clear that pre-hospital care was Justin's passion and talent. This summary of his 'sign off' shift report captures the colleague we knew.
"Justin's calm approach to the shift today was great to see. He has clearly worked hard in reading and understanding the SOPs, equipment, and local procedures and has done so in detail. Along with the duty paramedic, he completed the morning checks diligently and responded appropriately to a tasking mid-checklist that required a road-based response. Three patients seen today. Justin's calm and thoughtful demeanor continued on scene and he interacted with the crews, flight crew, and flight paramedic well. Detailed knowledge of aircraft loading list and main bag contents. Comfortable around the aircraft. Contributed willingly to base tasks and to media/PR requests. Handover of patient at hospital was again excellent and his clinical notes are of a high standard. I think Justin is going to be an asset to the service. Welcome to the team!"
It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Justin, and he will be missed at LNAA.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Justin when we began our HEMs careers together back in 2019 at EHAAT. First time I’d met someone from the Orkney islands. He was quiet at first but when he spoke it was usually terribly dry but immensely funny. It was nice to watch him grow into himself. An intelligent and skilled doctor. I’m grateful to have met and known him.
Rest in peace Celt.

I worked with Justin at LAA. I found him quiet initially but he really came out of his shell as I got to know him and he was very funny. One of my last evening’s in London was drinking steins with him and dancing to a German polka band.
He’ll be missed.

Sending my heartfelt sympathies and thoughts to all of Justin’s family and friends.
I had the privilege to have known Justin through his time with EHAAT. What came across was his dry humour, quiet authority, passion for maintaining and driving standards in patient care but most of all, just being a kind human being. His loss is felt across the Air Ambulance Community but no more acutely than by his family.
Ben Myer
My heartfelt sympathies go out to Justin's loved ones. Having had the privilege to work with him at LAA, I can attest to his genuine warmth, exceptional dedication, and impact he made as a doctor in prehospital care. His departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all of us in the Air Ambulance community beyond.
Justin's legacy as a compassionate and skilled doctor will continue to inspire those who knew him. I am grateful for the time we shared, and mourn the loss of a truly good-hearted individual. He will be profoundly missed.
