In Loving Memory of Julia Ann Mele
Julia Ann Mele, affectionately known as Julie and Julianne, passed away on October 22, 2026. Born on August 15, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York, she was raised in Staten Island and later made her home in Carey, Ohio. No matter where life took her, Julie always held a special place in her heart for New York and the family roots that shaped her. She was a proud graduate of Tottenville High School, Class of 1986.
Julie was the beloved daughter of Maryann Mele, who preceded her in death, and Alfred “Sonny” Mele. The youngest of three siblings, she grew up alongside her older brothers, Nunzio Mele and Vincent Mele, who also preceded her in death.
Music was a special part of Julie’s life from the very beginning. Her mother would sing throughout the day, filling their home with music, while her brother would have the band playing in the family room when they were younger. Those childhood memories stayed with Julie, who grew up loving music and singing herself.
Julie had a wonderful sense of humor, a kind and caring heart, and a special gift for making people feel loved and remembered. She kept in touch with family and friends, never forgot a birthday, and loved reminiscing about the memories they shared. She could make you laugh on your hardest days and always made sure to end a conversation with “Love you.” No matter the distance, Julie made time for the people who mattered most.
Family was at the heart of Julie’s life. She shared a deep bond with her father, Alfred “Sonny” Mele, and her brother, Nunzio, both of whom she loved dearly. Her niece, Marissa Plante, and nephew, Michael Mele, were incredibly important to her. She cherished her sister-in-law, Maryann Mele, Nunzio’s wife, and her boyfriend, Brian Burt. She also adored her great-nephews, Paxton and Cameron Plante, who brought her so much joy.
Although Julie faced health challenges over the past several years, they never diminished her vibrant personality, infectious laughter, or beautiful smile. Strong, determined, and stubborn in the best possible way, she was a fighter through and through. Growing up as the youngest of three with two older brothers taught her early on how to stand her ground. Julie loved hard and fought even harder, facing life’s challenges with a strength that those who knew her will never forget.
Julie leaves behind her beloved father, Alfred “Sonny” Mele; her brother, Nunzio Mele, and his wife, Maryann Mele; her niece, Marissa Plante, and her husband, Ryan Plante; her nephew, Michael Mele, and his wife, Sabrina Hogan; her boyfriend, Brian Burt; her great-nephews, Paxton and Cameron Plante; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Julie’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, located in Holmes Beach, Florida.
Family and friends are welcome to gather in prayer and remembrance as we celebrate Julie’s life and honor the memories she leaves behind.
Julie will be remembered for her love of family, music, and singing, her unforgettable humor, and her remarkable ability to make people feel that they mattered. She never forgot the people she loved or those she had lost, and her family will continue to honor her through the stories they share, the memories they cherish, and the laughter that will always bring her to mind
