You've got to dance like there's nobody watching, love like you'll never be hurt, sing like there's nobody listening, and live like its heaven on earth

Obituary

Judith Ann Leoni, born on June 9, 1938, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at the age of 87. She was the cherished wife of Leonard Leoni for 56 years and a devoted mother to Katie and Emma. Throughout her life, Judith touched countless hearts with her kindness, strength, unwavering warmth, and unstoppable sense of humour.

Judith lived a life rich in experience, creativity, and adventure. A celebrated author, she wrote a trilogy of autobiographical works that captured her remarkable journey and the many stories that shaped her. Born in Bunbury, Western Australia, she grew up in the small town of Wagin before attending the historic New Norcia. She went on to become a dedicated Paediatric Nurse and later served as a Charge Sister and ran the Midwifery section of many hospitals, ending up in Exmouth, WA, where she met and married American Naval Engineer Leonard Leoni in 1969.
Her life continued to unfold across borders and cultures.  Judith lived in LA during the Vietnam period while Len was away serving, Alaska where Katie was born, back to Perth Western Australia where Emma was born, then onto Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu throughout the 1980s before returning to Australia in 1986. There, she spent 15+ years managing the office of a successful family business alongside Len. Even after “retirement”—a term used loosely—her adventures never truly stopped. She was an avid painter and put oil to canvas whenever time allowed, her talents were also lent to sewing and knitting, there are many out there with one of her jumpers!

As the last of the Luscombe–Taylor line, Judith carried forward a legacy of resilience, curiosity, and deep family pride. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, compassion, and treasured memories that will be forever held close by all who knew her.

Her passing comes as a profound shock, and her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to share in her life.
Judith’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, support, and condolences received during this difficult time. Her memory will remain a lasting source of comfort and inspiration to all whose lives she touched.

I find it difficult to accept that my dear friend Judith has left us for her heavenly abode. This year, 2026 will mark the 40th year since I met the wonderful Leoni family. I was a total stranger to Judith and had arrived with my friends the Perkins brothers David and Geoff. Judith treated me as if I had always been part of her family, making life as comfortable for us during our short stay. Even when we were parting, she ensured we had a packed lunch for our onward journey. I have always treasured memories of the time I spent in Nambour and last year, 2025 was special as Judith went out of her way to send me her books which I couldn't get in U.K. I will end with the words from her book 'My Mother and Myself': 'Live, love, laugh and be happy'.

Aunty Jude was kind, caring, and deeply welcoming to those around her. She lived a rich and interesting life, loved her footy games, and will be remembered for her warmth and laughter.

She leaves behind many happy memories and will be dearly missed. I have cherished memories of our time in Nambour and Vanuatu - oh, how much fun we all had. I have one of her paintings at home, and seeing it every day reminds me of my darling Aunty and how talented she was.

With love to Uncle Lennie, Katie, Emma, and Mat.🤟

Sending love to my Australian family. Although I never had the chance to meet Jude in person, I always enjoyed seeing her on Facebook. We communicated through Christmas cards, Facebook posts and messenger. From all the posts and pictures I see, she was truly an amazing woman and a wonderful wife and mother. To Len, Katie and Emma cherish the memories of this special lady.
