Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” John 14:27
Obituary
In Loving Memory of Joseph Luther Sanford
Joseph Luther Sanford, age 91, of Little Elm, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, October 16, 2025. Born in Comanche County, Oklahoma, Joe was the beloved son of the late Thomas Luther and Nannie Lou Sanford.
Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Pat Sanford; his daughter, Sharon Murphy; grandson, Brooks Brandon Henson; two brothers Gene Sanford, Herschel Sanford; and his sister, Bobbi Vaughn.
Joe and Pat were married in 1952. Together, they built a beautiful life in Garland, Texas, where they raised their family and were longtime members of Freeman Heights Baptist Church.
A proud veteran, Joe served in the U.S. Army as part of the 11th Airborne Division from 1955 to 1957. He wore his service with pride—often seen in his 11th Airborne cap and pin.
Joe enjoyed a successful 30-year career at Texas Instruments, retiring as a Supervisor. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and leadership.
Outside of work, Joe found joy in woodworking, classic cars, and gardening. He had a deep love for his family and a fondness for old westerns, country music and anything with Gene Autry. His days were often spent with a cup of coffee in hand, and his evenings were sweetened by a bowl of butter pecan ice cream.
Joe is survived by his son, Michael Sanford and wife Laura of Leonard; daughter, Gayle Sanford Lyons of Aubrey; grandchildren: Jennifer Montgomery, Dustin Henson, Brooks Murphy, Kristi Ecord, Kelli Lyons, and Kayla Peurifoy; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and his brother, Doug Sanford of Colorado. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
