John, who we knew as Charlie, was always fun to be around, was a gentleman and always happy to help anyone. When my husband and I married in 1976 we spent our wedding night at a hotel in Tring, but hadn't thought about how we would get home on Sunday. No mobile phones in those days. As we walked out of the hotel, Charlie just happened to be driving by and took us home. We often wonder if that was pure coincidence or just Charlie looking out for his friends. (However, we did find a rotten fish in our car 2 weeks later when we returned from honeymoon. Charlie had hid it in there on our wedding day as a prank - always the fun guy) Rest in Peace, John you will be missed. Vic and Jean

My bruv John, always happy, positive and telling stories of his past trips around the world in the Navy. JR, as he was known to some of his friends, would do anything for anybody - even travelling once from Hereford to Wales and back again to pick up som keys someone had left at home so couldn't get into their mobile home.
He always teased me in front of others 'there she goes again the little mother' - It was true, I did mother him & James. He always came to Gloucester for all our family celebrations and was popular with them all. If he called us he would always end with 'give my love to the Welshman' or 'the English Lady'. We will miss the calls, we will miss you - Gone too soon. Rest in peace, love from us all. Lawrence, Mo, Emily, Kieran, Charlie, Fiona, Chris and Maureen (Kieran's Mum) xx

John, Charlie to us, was part of a large group of pals lucky enough to have him in our lives. Always chipper, found a humorous way to deal with things although I suspect there was a deeper hidden side. Borrowing his sister’s VW beetle and nearly wrecking it plus many other events. His global travels gave him lots of material to broaden his stories and humour. My thoughts are with his family - rest in peace my dear friend and keep them laughing “up there”

John was truly one of the kindest people I've ever known. His infectious laughter and playful humor brightened the lives of everyone around him. Even in this sad time, the wonderful memories we have will always fill our hearts—like those cozy naps with Chloe curled up on your belly or the fun times you had scaring little Ruben with that Halloween mask. These cherished moments will always bring warmth to our hearts and remind us of the beautiful soul you were. x

I remember I was in a graveyard with nan and grandad when I was younger and grandad disappeared and jumped out from behind a tree or a gravestone I think. He was nearly on the floor from laughing so much

Charlie was one of my parents Sue & Nigel Batemans best friends! I remember as a child the times spent when Charlie come round our house! He was always the life and soul of any gathering! I remember one time when they all were drunk and Charlie decided to eat from the dog bowl in the kitchen! Charlie was there for us girls when our parents sadly passed away and have kept in touch. Charlie I hope you are back together with our parents. Shine Bright and Thank you it was a pleasure to know you ❤️Lots of love Nicola xxx
