In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.
Obituary
John Douglas Marrington was born in London, England, on December 27, 1946, and passed away on October 30, 2024, following a cardiac arrest he experienced while playing golf—a game he loved—exactly one week before.
In 1957, John immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings, where he began a life full of adventure, dedication, and generosity. His career in mining and mine contracting allowed him to live in and experience remarkable places, including Africa and Ireland. John was known for his wonderful storytelling, infectious laugh, and warm hospitality, traits that endeared him to many throughout his life. After his final work posting in Goodwood, Ontario, John embraced retirement in Anthem, Arizona, where he truly thrived.
John found joy in many passions, especially golf, travel, and the deep friendships he nurtured. He and his beloved wife, Carla, enjoyed countless road trips, often choosing scenic, lesser-known routes that led them to hidden treasures. Together, they cherished the journey as much as the destination.
John is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Carla; his brother Keith Marrington and sister Ruth Vredik, along with their families in Calgary, Alberta; his sister-in-law Sharon Stiles and her husband John Fitz of Yakima, Washington; and his children: Christy and Kevin Keogh of Bluffton, South Carolina, their daughter Shaylee; Samantha Moore and Larry Herman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and her daughter Bridget; and Curt Marrington and his daughter Brooklyn. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Ron and Kyra Snyder of Anthem, Arizona, with their sons Caid and Cody and their families; Jim and Kathy Snyder of East Northport, New York, with their daughter Meghan and sons Wyatt and Gavin; as well as the children of his late stepdaughter Trina—Samantha Medina, Nick Snyder, Makenzie Boteler, and Lizzie Hill of Spokane, Washington, and their families.
John’s legacy is carried on by his extensive and loving family, including ten grandchildren, their spouses, and five great-grandchildren. His life was filled with love, laughter, and fulfillment. John embraced life to the fullest, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He loved life, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
