"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings." - John Gillespie Magee Jr.
Obituary
Johann Edward Sobota (“Ed”), 88, of Conifer, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2025. Born on January 19, 1937, Ed had a deep love for flying, traveling, building homes, and—most of all—spending time with his family.
A devoted lifelong partner to his beloved wife, Julie Josephine Sobota (Milhaupt), Ed inspired all who knew him with his steadfast faith in God and his unwavering optimism. A skilled pilot and passionate builder, he approached every challenge with the same steady hand and sharp mind that guided his life. Friends and family will remember Ed for his characteristic humor—a gentle teaser with a twinkle in his eye—and for the warmth and strength he brought to every gathering.
Ed is survived by his wife, Julie; his son, Johann Edward Sobota II (Jes); his daughter, Jacqueline Miller (Sobota); and his cherished granddaughters, Aurelia and Alessandra. His enduring faith, dedication to his work, and deep love for his family leave a legacy that will be treasured by all who were blessed to know him.
A memorial celebration of life honoring Ed will be held at Three Trees Chapel in Littleton, Colorado, on January 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and to celebrate the joy he brought to so many. The service will be livestreamed. Military honors will be performed earlier that day at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Please see details below.
