Obituary
Joe was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1961 to Rose and Jose Raul Rivera Sr. As a junior, he was lovingly known in his family as “Little Joe.”
Joe leaves behind his mother, Rose Rivera; his sister, Rebecca; his brothers, Gabe and Gilbert; and their adopted brother, Jose Luis. He had two beautiful daughters, Jeanine and Ashley; his stepson, Erich; three cherished grandchildren, Vincent, Jasmine, and Amina; and his wife, Connie.
It is important to mention some of his favorite foods, especially—fried chicken, banana splits, menudo, and of course, hot dogs, especially chili dogs.
Joe loved people and made friends easily. He had a quirky sense of humor and hid it from no one. He was generous and lived up to the saying that he would give you the shirt off his back. He was not only kind but also a hard worker with a strong work ethic. He had a natural talent for fixing just about anything, from small electronics to home and vehicle repairs. He loved working with his hands and took pride in solving problems.
Photography was another passion of Joe’s—he took pictures of everything, capturing life’s details through his lens. He also loved anything technical, from cameras to computers to speakers, always eager to learn how things worked.
Music and movies in general were a big part of Joe’s life. He had a vast collection of CDs, digital music, and DVDs. Joe’s favorite movies were anything Godzilla, Star Trek and action. With that said, he loved The Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy. He also enjoyed traveling and going to theme parks especially, Disney theme parks.
But above all, Joe loved his Heavenly Father, Jehovah God, and his family. His faith was unshakable. Up to his very last breath, Joe remained faithful to his God Jehovah, holding firmly to the promises found in God's Word the Bible. His favorite scriputure is found at Ecclesiastes 9:5 ...but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.
Joe also drew comfort and strength from scriptures such as Revelation 21:3-5, which assures us that God “will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more.” He believed wholeheartedly in the promise at 1 Corinthians 15:26—that death, our greatest enemy, will one day be brought to nothing. These Bible truths gave him hope and peace, and they now give us comfort as we look forward to the day when we will rejoice in seeing Joe again. It is important to acknowledge Little Joe's mother Rose, as she is the person who loving introduced him to Bible truths.
While we feel the pain of loss today, we hold tightly to the hope Joe treasured—that one day, there will be no more tears of sadness, and death will be more. We will carry Joe’s memory with us, honoring the life he lived and the faith he displayed so beautifully.
