Obituary

Jodi Lynn (Norman) Weghorst, 64, of Weldon, CA, passed away with her family lovingly by her side in Bakersfield, CA on July 18, 2024.

Born September 23, 1959, to Elmer "Jack" & Jeanette Norman Jr. Jodi lived her rambunctious young life in the San Fernando Valley with her three siblings Jeffrey, Jill, and Elmer III.

Family vacations to the Kern River Valley led to a love of the outdoors and a small, tight-knit community. After moving to Wofford Heights, with her parents to finish her high school years, Jodi developed many lasting friendships and met her future husband, John Carl “JC” Weghorst III, at Kern Valley High School. Jodi graduated in 1977 and was married to JC the following year. Three years later, they welcomed their son, John Carl Weghorst IV. The marriage between Jodi and JC dissolved, but their friendship never wavered. Nine years later, Jodi gave birth to her second son, Frank Dean Hodges V, while residing in California City. Missing her family and friends, Jodi moved to Ridgecrest until returning to the place she always called home, the Kern River Valley, in 2008.

Jodi was a friend to many and a stranger to none. She tried to see the best in everyone, always giving the benefit of doubt. Jodi was independent and strong willed, but she also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. She was generous, loyal, and always up for a good time. She was very reliable and hardworking, every employer’s dream. Jodi proudly instilled these qualities into both her boys.

Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide network of community. She will be remembered for all the love she shared with her friends and family. She truly loved each of them- and if you knew her, you knew it.

Jodi is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Hobart Norman Jr. and Jeanette (Burks) Norman, her brothers, Jeffrey Lee Norman and Elmer Hobart Norman III, and her great-nephew, Zachary Scott Griswold. She is survived by her sister, Jill (Russ) Green, sons, John Carl Weghorst IV and Frank Dean (Carlianne) Hodges V, nephews Jeffrey (Oana) Norman and Jake (Kali) Coleck, nieces, Candice (Chad) Griswold and Julie (Jack) Barton, grandchildren, Johnny, Jackson, Khaidyn, Farren, Mackenzie, and Kayson, great granddaughter, Addilyn, great nieces and nephews, and many friends whom she considered family.

I was not ready to lose you. I will hold on tightly to all of our wonderful memories. Thank you for being somebody so special in my life. Thank you for never hesitating to be there for me, to laugh uncontrollably with me, and to give me the advice I needed. I will miss you for the rest of my days.

I have so many childhood memories of Jodi and The Norman family. Our families became friends when we were very young!! I have so many special memories of going to the cabin! We would ride motorcycles and ride in the dune buggy! Jodi was always up for an adventure and being wild and crazy with my sister Nan. My heart is broken for her family. Keep all of your special memories close to your heart ❤️ like I always have! R.I.P. sweet Jodi. You will always be with us and watching over your family! Love you ❤️

To the family, I am so sorry for your loss. I met Jodi in 2009. She was such an awesome person. She was smart, strong, and loved her family. She smiled brightly an was full of life. She was kind, and welcoming, and a very sweet friend. She will sorely be missed by many. Rest in peace my sweet friend 💜.
