Count Your Blessings.
Obituary
Jimmy Wade Mills, Sr., age 75, passed away on March 21, 2026. With the support of hospice and the loving care of his family, he was comfortable in his final days following a long illness.
Jimmy was born on November 29, 1950, in Canyon, Texas. He enjoyed a cherished childhood alongside his brother Larry and many cousins. From an early age, he was known for his playful antics—once even earning runner-up in a Dennis the Menace contest. He carried that bright and lively spirit with him throughout his life.
He developed a passion for electronics at a young age, often taking things apart to understand how they worked—and sometimes putting them back together even better than before. He loved go-carts, motorcycles, and cars, interests that remained lifelong passions. He also enjoyed working with tools and built an impressive collection over the years; even in his final days, he was still thinking of projects to take on.
Jimmy’s interest in electronics and computers led him to a career in computer technology during the early rise of the digital age. He had a natural talent for the work, which became his lifelong profession. His career took him from Dallas to Lubbock, Texas, where he spent most of his life. After working for other companies, he founded his own IT business, Technet Computer Services, which remained his life’s work until retirement.
He had a deep love of music, especially artists like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and the Everly Brothers. He also enjoyed television and movies, particularly sitcoms from the 1970s and 1980s, as well as science fiction and mystery films. He was an early adopter of satellite TV, long before it became common in households.
Jimmy adored his many pet dogs over the years, who brought him constant joy. In his later years, he especially enjoyed spoiling his granddog with unauthorized table scraps, creating a special bond between them.
Above all, Jimmy’s greatest love was his wife, Susan. As the family story goes, he met Susan at age 17 and went home that day to tell his mother, “I met the girl I’m going to marry.” Though she initially paid him little attention, he eventually won her heart, and they shared 54 years of marriage. His strong work ethic and dedication were always centered on his family—his greatest treasure. He loved deeply his son Wade, daughter Jennifer, and grandchildren Kaleb, Brady, and Mia. He also cherished his extended family, finding joy in his brother, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephew. He was also a dear friend to many others.
Jimmy lived by the simple but powerful lessons taught by his mother: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” and “Count your blessings.”
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Wade and Jennifer (Jason); and his three grandchildren, Kaleb (son of Gabe), Brady, and Mia. He is also survived by his nieces, Rebecca Oakes, Michelle Estes, and Elicia Sanchez, and his nephew, Timothy Mills.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Mills; his father, Lawrence “Don” Mills, Sr.; and his brother, Larry Mills.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lubbock, TX. Information will be updated here when available.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations in his honor to Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit Jimmy supported, or Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, WA which provided him comfort and care in his final months.
