James Christopher Hogan

Obituary

Atlantic City native, golf fanatic, Grateful Dead enthusiast, and world-class storyteller and friend, James “Jim” Hogan passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, love, and the sounds of his favorite music.  Jim fought a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Born and raised in Atlantic City, NJ, Jim spent his life making friends wherever he went. He worked as a bartender at several AC casinos and had a gift for connecting with people.  His wit, big laugh, and even bigger heart made him the life of every party and a friend for life.  He was affectionately dubbed “the best retired person we ever knew”.

Jim was a devoted husband to his wife, Donna of almost 45 years and a wonderful dad to his two children Jess and Joe.  He was Pop-Pop to his three grandchildren, Emilia, Dax and Benjamin.  Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Hogan, Sr and his mother, Diane Benedetti Hogan and survived by his brother, sister, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

Jimmy’s story lives on in all of us, and we’re pretty sure he’s up there right now with a golf club in one hand and a beer in the other, telling anyone who’ll listen about that time he owned an ice cream parlor!  Please share your memory or pictures for all of us to smile and remember the best of "Jim".

My memories of Jim go back to the days when our sons rowed for St. Augustine Prep. This was around 2011-2012. It always was a pleasure to share a few words with Jim at Lake Lenape while the kids practiced on Saturday mornings. He was such a gentleman and fun to talk with. My condolences to your family. Rest in peace, Jim.

Was just telling a Jim Hogan story a couple of days ago to my family. Golf escapades and working the Trump Castle/Marina together. So many laughs and celebrations. Jim was all about celebrating life. My three daughters were born at the hospital a mile from his house, and we toasted every one of them in his den. A kind,
generous, and mischievous spirit, Jim was. Rest well friend.

Jimmy and I were both day one bartenders at Trump Castle. We worked the same outlets for years and we saw each other daily.
His famous saying was “I never had a bad day.”
Lots of memories of parties, going to the Pocono’s , weddings and so many events over the years our coworkers were family.
My sincere sympathies to Donna and the children.
