Obituary
It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Jimmy. He fell asleep peacefully, surrounded by his wife, daughter and granddaughter on the 6th June.
Jimmy will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his extensive knowledge of chess and chess history. Family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues all experienced the warmth and sincerity that made time spent with Jimmy so meaningful.
Throughout life, Jimmy built lasting connections and touched many lives through simple acts of care, encouragement, and friendship. His career in the chess industry took him to many places and allowed him to connect with people from all different backgrounds, from teaching children chess in schools, to meeting Grace Kelly.
Conversations, shared moments, and everyday gestures created memories that will remain with those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family meant a great deal to Jimmy and relationships were always nurtured with patience and devotion. He lived to see his granddaughter born and each moment with her was treasured by his family.
Friends valued his loyalty, generosity and sincerity, while colleagues appreciated his dedication and a thoughtful approach to work and collaboration. With Jimmy’s extensive knowledge and precision to detail, he was a joy to work with.
The passing of Jimmy leaves a space that cannot ever be filled. Yet the memories, lessons, and moments shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
Jimmy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered and his legacy will live on through his family, his lasting work, publications and contributions to the chess world.
