Obituary

James “Jim” Berndt, aged 77, of Fulton, Maryland, passed away on September 4, 2026. Born on August 10, 1949, Jim was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather whose warmth and dedication touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jim shared a devoted marriage of 50 years with his wife, Fran. Together, they built a loving family with three children, their spouses, and six grandchildren. Jim’s care and commitment were at the heart of his family life; he was always there to support, nurture, and lend a helping hand. Known for his thoughtfulness and resourcefulness, Jim was the person friends and family members turned to when faced with a challenge.

He possessed a knack for fixing things and was affectionately called “Mr. Fix It” by those who appreciated his creative solutions and steady hand (until it wasn't so steady). Whether the task was big or small, Jim approached every problem as an opportunity to help and connect with others. If you were ever looking for him, Jim was usually found "putzing around" the house or lawn looking for things to fix and opportunities to use his chainsaw and garden tools.

Jim’s sense of humor and intelligence brightened every conversation. He generously shared clever jokes, lovingly called "Corny Dad Jokes" by his children, bringing smiles and laughter into the lives of those around him.

In his earlier years, Jim was an avid runner, biker, and swimmer. He enjoyed participating in triathlons. He also loved soccer and beer.

Jim will be dearly missed by Fran, their three children, their spouses, six grandchildren, and two sisters and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of kindness, ingenuity, and warmth endures in the hearts and memories of everyone whose life he touched.
