Obituary
Jim “Jimmy” Meehan, 63, of Lake Worth, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 3rd in Wildwood, New Jersey, after a day at a family reunion filled with beachside fun, boardwalk strolls, and the company of people he loved.
Born on June 13th, 1962 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jimmy spent his earliest years as part of the beloved “Bingham Street Gang,” the first crew of lifelong friends who helped shape his adventurous spirit. He was later raised in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, where he developed his lifelong love for the ocean, reggae music, and adventure. He attended high school at Georgetown Prep in Maryland, and later graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he earned a degree in Journalism and met his lovely wife, Mary.
Jimmy lived an extraordinary, far-reaching life, calling many places home — from Entebbe, Uganda, to Baltimore, Maryland, and finally Lake Worth, Florida. A loving father to his three daughters, Caileigh, Shannon, and Aidan, he poured his heart into creating memories, offering encouragement, and celebrating every milestone, big or small.
He believed the world was a friendly place, and the world met him there. He was known for his endless zest for life, his gift for making instant friends wherever he went, and his ability to turn even the most ordinary moments into unforgettable experiences. Whether cheering for his favorite teams — the Phillies, Orioles, Ravens, Eagles, and Marquette Basketball — swapping stories over a gin and tonic, or sharing jokes and musings over text, Jimmy filled the lives around him with joy, humor, and warmth.
Jimmy’s passions led him across the globe, but his deepest joy was always in the people he loved. His friends and family knew him as the first person to celebrate their good news, the one who remembered every birthday and holiday, and the man who lived fully on his own terms.
He is survived by his daughters, Caileigh, Shannon, and Aidan; his mother Maria and stepfather Russ; his sisters Jeanne and Andrea; his nieces Divya, Chiya, Ria, and Emma; his nephew Mac; and beloved grandnephew Ronin and grandniece Raya; and a wide circle of extended family and lifelong friends whose lives are richer for having known him. He was preceded in death by his brother Will, sister Kristy, his father Jim, and ex-wife Mary.
A celebration of Jimmy’s life was held on August 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Jimmy’s memory by raising a glass with friends and sharing a memory or story about him with his family on the wall below.
Above all, Jimmy’s legacy is one of joy, adventure, laughter, and love — a reminder to live each day with extra vigor, just as he did.
