Obituary

Jephthae Davis of Upper Marlboro, MD went home to be with the Lord early evening January 10, 2025 at 66 years of age.

Jeph was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1958 to parents Roosevelt Davis and Mildred Boyd. He grew up under the wing of elders at the Church of the Living God, establishing his love and building his relationship with the Lord early on. At 19, he joined the US Airforce and soon after married his childhood sweetheart Tanya Lynne Bacon.

After basic training in Wichita Falls, Texas he completed 4 years of service as a central office technician at Andrews Airforce Base in Camp Springs, MD. In 1982, he was hired by C&P Telephone (now known as Verizon) where he would continue his career for 42 years moving up the ranks until his recent position as an engineer.

From 1977 - 1984 as he completed his military service and started his career, he and his wife Tanya had 4 children LaTanya, Nehemiah, Michael and Naomi. A true man of God, Jeph dedicated his life to his wife and children, including them in every aspect of his life from hosting neighborhood bible studies to teaching martial arts. Jeph also enjoyed spending his time supporting his children’s extra-curricular activities and could be found around the house making up silly songs and playing his guitar while sitting in his favorite chair, as well as offering advice, words of wisdom and enlightening scripture to all who were in need.

In the late 90s, his upbringing in a sabbath-keeping church inspired him to join the church of Seventh-Day Adventists. After his ordination as Elder in 2004, his gift for teaching the gospel led him to pursue his education in biblical studies, achieving his Bachelor’s in Biblical Studies, his Master’s in Theology and his Doctorate in Ministry in 2018. He published his first book, "Salvation" in 2019 and the following year was ordained as an independent Christian clergy by Christian Global Outreach Ministries.

He and his wife Tanya then formed Breaking the Cycle, a bible-based, non-denominational ministry seeking to break the cycle of abuse, addiction and poverty by encouraging, supporting and strengthening individuals and families through living, teaching and modeling the Gospel of Christ.

“Salvation is a term familiar among many Christians and those acquainted with the faith. Meanwhile, many outside the faith question what salvation is all about and why there is a need for it. My prayer is that all will gain more insight that will further their knowledge and growth in Christ.” ~Jephthae Davis, Salvation

Dr. Jephthae Davis is survived by his wife and soulmate Tanya Lynne Davis, his oldest child LaTanya Hawkins, his youngest son Michael Davis and wife Sheila Davis, his youngest child Naomi Watson and his grandchildren Raleigh Wilson Hawkins IV, Avery Jephthae Hawkins, Ashley Watson, Maleah Davis and Dakota Rose Boyd, his sister Mary Haynes and her husband Aggrey Haynes and his brother Jamal Galloway.

He was preceded in death by his eldest son Nehemiah Davis and his sister Estelle Sisco.

I am so heartbroken to learn of Elder Davis’s death. He and Tonya were such a great example of a godly couple and a wonderful influence within the church and wherever they went. Brother Davis was one of the pillars of the church and was always ready and willing to fulfill God’s mission. He was God’s ambassador that stood for the truth, but showed Christ’s compassion and mercy. He will always be missed and his godly influence will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.

My friend, brother & fellow Elder. I'm sadden to get the news of Jeph's passing. He was a man who lived his faith. He was so supportive in church leadership, assuring me he always had my back. A true mentor to all who knew him. Truly a man of Elohim, servant of the Most High Yahuah. What I will miss most, are his words of encouragement, and the Biblical scholar he was who always gave me solid advice. We all must live as Jeph did, so we can meet him again when Yahusha returns to take us all home where peace & happiness will be ours. Rest my Brother, You fought a good fight, you kept the faith, henceforth is laid up for you a crown of righteousness which you will receive on that great day. Amein & Amein. My deepest condolences to Tanya & the Davis family & may the peace of Yah comfort you all.

I know the lord is coming soon because HE is allowing HIS beloved to enter into HIS rest. And HE will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be death; there will no longer be sorrow and anguish, or crying, or pain; for the former order of things has passed away.” Rev. 21:4. Family, weep, scream, mourn but not without hope because this man of God is not dead. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Jephthae Davis, my dear friend and my brother, whom I loved. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." - so Jephthae lived Christ's words in obedience in how he lived his life before the Lord. "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." - so Jephthae provided for the needs of others, and he shared the Gospel of Jesus with all that would hear. I'm thankful for the time the Lord allowed for üs to know each other. My condolences to all the family and to all who knew and loved him.

To the Davis Family I cannot find the words to express our thoughts on the loss of Elder Davis. He has definitely left a void in our hearts that no one can fill. May the wonderful memories he left behind be of comfort to you all. It’s so hard to say goodbye to such a person as him, but rest assured we know that Elder Davis will be one of the souls that will rise up when Christ returns. Our deepest sympathies and condolences to you all.

To the family: May the strength of the Lord be your comfort. Praying God’s peace, love, grace upon each of you knowing that Mr. Davis is safe with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. God is a keeper of His own word when He say I will be there in hard, sad, and dark times. Lean on His everlasting love. Linda
