Jennifer Lynn Schlick

And so, we might say, "One life gone". But one person is not just one person. In each of us, there is a world, webbing out, reaching others, creating reactions—sometimes equal, sometimes opposite. We rush to say "One life gone". But each of us is a world. And today, a world has been lost.
Obituary
Jennifer Lynn Schlick, beloved daughter, sister, and amazing friend to so very many, passed away on August 2, 2025, at age 40.
Jenn brought light and warmth to everyone she met—family, friends, and coworkers alike. She excelled at everything she put her mind to: graduating summa cum laude from the University of Maine, teaching herself front-end web design and development, transforming dozens of client websites to be more engaging, informative and cool, and eventually culminating her career as Senior IT Project Manager, at Barnard College, in New York City.
Jenn had the rare gift of seeing the best in people and was deeply committed to helping them become the most fully realized versions of themselves. She had many interests, but was most passionate about mindfulness, leading a minimalist lifestyle, and doing all she could to leave a small-carbon footprint in her wake.
Jennifer is survived by her parents, Carl and Donna; brother, Brian; aunts, Melanie, Karen, Maida and husband Dicky; uncle, John; and cousins, Jasmin, Amy, Corey and wife Fiorella, Josh and wife Ryan, Ariel, Gabriel, Chris and wife Erin, Becky and husband Byron.
Jenn was laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery, in Topsham, Maine. Below the gallery are two videos of her memorial: the first, without praise, and the second, with praise, and a priest's eulogy. There is also a video of her 2016 Finland Wordcamp presentation on sustainable web design.

It’s hard to summarize what an amazing person she was in this small space. She was so smart, funny, talented and supportive.
It doesn’t feel like anything I write here will be worthy, so I will just say that Jenn was one of my ‘handfuls’. The handful of people you meet in your lifetime, if you’re lucky, that become your lifelong friends. I am grateful to have known her.
Jenn and I started our new jobs on the same day in January 2024 and I have the fondest memories of working alongside her for 15 months. She was so kind, incredibly smart, an amazing listener and had the best laugh. Even through a computer screen, she had the warmest presence and I felt so lucky to have someone like her by my side. Jenn started as a co-worker to me but quickly turned into a friend I looked forward to talking to and seeing every day.
My heart is with Jenn's family, friends and all that knew her. She was a really special person and I'll think of her often.
The world is dimmed with her departure, and I wish it were not so.
Feel shocked of hearing about her death. May she pass on to light, and continue her joyous journey in worlds beyond. I pay for the family during this difficult time
we were in constant touch, every day, multiple times a day—supporting each other, championing who we were, and could be
you taught me new ways to find value in myself—in my potential, and in all the worthwhile goals you believed i could achieve
i’m striving to become the person you always saw in me: one who moves forward, and reaches for the heights we envisioned we’d share the successes of
and, though you’re no longer by my side, you shine your light on me, reaching out from the night sky
you are my moon, jenn
i love you
I had the pleasure of working with Jenn in the IT department at Barnard. I work remote but was fortunate to meet her in person during my last visit to campus, which included a happy hour with colleagues that she organized. She was a warm and caring person and will be missed.
