We are not given a good life or a bad life - We are given a life. It is up to us to make it good or bad.

Obituary

Dear family and friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Jennifer May Kong, who left us peacefully on July 30th at 10:05 AM, surrounded by her daughter Alix, her husband Alan, her son-in-law Jamieson, her sister Judy and her brother-in-laws Eric and Roth.

Jennifer was born in 1958 in Saint John, on Canada's east coast, to Julia and Gene Wong. She was the beloved sister of Juliana, Judy, Jacqueline, Eugene, and Gerry. The family later moved to Vancouver, where Jennifer spent her childhood and grew into the woman so many would come to love. In 1987, she married Alan Kong, and together they raised their daughter Alix in Kelowna before moving back to Vancouver to be closer to family.

Jennifer had a true love for art and pottery, and spent many happy hours at the wheel and in her studio. Some lucky friends and family still hold onto plates, bowls, and cups shaped by her own hands — small, lasting pieces of her creativity and care. She was also an avid golfer, spending countless hours at the range and on the course, and she treasured the friendships she built along the way at Capilano.

Jennifer was a ray of light to everyone who knew her. She carried a constant, infectious positivity that gave her the strength to face whatever came her way — and to be a source of strength for the people around her. Those who knew her remember a true picture of courage, a fighter who remained unwavering through every challenge, and a wonderful person who lived life to the fullest. She was, in the words of so many who reached out, a bright light — generous, thoughtful, and full of kindness, with a special way of making everyone around her feel cared for. A wonderful, kind, generous woman. A great human being.

Jennifer is survived by her husband Alan, her daughter Alix, her mother Julia, and her siblings Juliana, Judy, Jacqueline, Eugene, and Gerry and her son-in-law Jamieson.

I am at a loss for words.

She was an angel for so many. She gave her love and was so generous to so many.

I first met her at UBC. She was always classy and elegant, always cheerful. She carried that with her throughout her life.

When Jaye and I had kids, she was the aunt who always remembered their birthdays and came bearing gifts and laisee for them.

She left us far too soon. A piece is now missing in our family that can never be replaced.

I think of her every day.

Jennifer was a kind , helpful and very friendly person.
She and Alan lived across the street from us when we moved from Edmonton to our new house on Underwood Avenue .
She coached me on life in Vancouver and always reminded me when I ran across the street to visit to go home and lock my door before coming back.
Jennifer was also great on giving clothing advice as well, including what type of dress
to wear to her wedding.
Jennifer was a light in this world and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
I wished I had seen her more often in recent years.

Lots of love and big hugs,,

Dearest Jennifer,
Heaven is receiving its newest Angel. Beautiful inside and out, you touched so many lives in the most wonderful way.

You and I were both born in Saint John, New Brunswick. We spent many summers together in Vancouver when my family drove up from Los Angeles and stayed with yours. Swimming every day, drive-in movies (hiding Judy in the trunk), PNE, late night drives in Stanley Park, and the ‘Puka Shell’ incident in Chinatown one late night. We always cried when we said our goodbyes with a sad drive back to Los Angeles. Those memories will stay with me forever.

I saw you twice in 2025 and I will forever cherish this. Wonderful memories were created at Alix and Jamieson’s beautiful wedding and on New Year’s Eve. You and Alan being there made it a special night.

I wish I knew how sick you were when we said our goodbyes on December 31, 2025. I would have hugged you tighter for 10 more seconds.

You will forever have a special place in my heart. Your Dad, my sister Donna and many ancestors are waiting to receive you. Go in Peace. As I am writing this to say goodbye to my bestest cousin, my heart is breaking. I will miss you. 💔

Love you always,
Dwight

Jennifer is so missed already. She was so many things to so many people but above all, she was a kind, generous, thoughtful classy lady who really knew how to wrap a present, drive a ball, and put on a meal and always look amazing while doing it! She had a great sense of humour and enjoyed many a snicker… She remembered everyone’s special days/events and we, in turn, will always remember her with such fondness.
With love & big bear hugs,
Jaye
PS. Are we doing the kids’ laisee this year? Coz i bet you that you will trick me again, somehow. Xox

The kindest most positive person I have ever had the privilege of learning from. Hopefully these happy memories will help fill the tremendous hole in our hearts.
