Obituary

Jeffrey A Levenstam, 69, was the devoted husband of Jean (née Hillebrandt), and a proud Son of Seymour and Sally (née Rogoff). Jeff was the perfect middle brother, the glue that bound older brother Barry and younger brother David together. Jeff was also a wonderful brother-in-law to Barry’s wife Elizabeth Landes and a doting uncle to his niece Sarah and her husband Keenan Bartlett. Jeff was born and bred in the first Mayor Daley’s Chicago, and graduated from Mather High School, where he was elected President of the Class of 1973. For many years, Jeff was a Vendor at Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park, and Soldier Field, a loyal member of Local 236 of the AFL-CIO, starting out selling peanuts and graduating to selling beers. Jeff also graduated from the University of Illinois in Accounting, becoming a CPA at age 21. Jeff became a recognized expert in International Tax Accounting and traveled the world for his many clients; he was well-respected in his profession by clients and colleagues alike. Jeff and Jean eventually settled outside Petaluma, California. Kind and wise, Jeff was also kind of a wiseguy, with a wicked sense of humor. He was a generous and wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, as well as a faithful and loyal dog-lover. To know Jeff was to love him. Jeff will be remembered fondly by many, and deeply missed by all who knew him well. Donations in Jeff’s memory to Golden Gate Lab Rescue would be greatly appreciated. www.labrescue.org

I will miss Jeff. He was always easy to talk to, understanding, and the utmost professional. I'll always be thankful for the opportunity he gave me.

I will forever remember two things about you: (i) a rather serious meeting with a rather important client -- and you made me laugh uncontrollably and whatever logic to recenter myself was lost (and then you started laughing, which made me laugh harder); and (ii) thank you for always remembering to ask about my chocolate lab when I had him: your interest meant the world and you were definitely one of the best guys I have met. I hope my pup provides you some laughter upstairs :)

I first met Jeff as a brand-new staff at Arthur Andersen. Over the next 33 years, I had the opportunity to work with and learn from Jeff, but more than just work, he became a cherished friend and mentor. Whenever I needed something or had a question, he would drop what he was doing to help. I will miss Jeff. My heart and prayers go out to his family.

Jeff was a really good guy, always so pleasant to interact with. I am a fellow Illinois guy (I also went to Univ of Illinois to study accounting), and Jeff always had that solid midwestern kindness and no-nonsense approach to everything (which is often missing out here in California). He will be missed. My condolences to his family.
