Jeffrey Scott Backus, 66, passed away on October 8, 2025, in Jensen Beach, FL.
Born on April 9, 1959, Jeffrey embraced life with humor, passion, and a deep love for his family. A devoted father, he leaves behind his children: Briana (Joe) Ingles of Lake Worth, FL; Leslie Backus of Jensen Beach; Marc Backus of Jensen Beach; Brandon (Lisa) Backus of Chattanooga, TN; and twins Jeffrey and Brett Backus of Port St. Lucie, FL; and his faithful companion, Dallas. He was a proud grandfather to triplets Cameron, Dakota, and Landon Backus, as well as Jordan and Maximus Backus.
He is also remembered by his sister Kimberly Backus of Langhorne, PA; his brother Gary (Tammy) Backus of East Amherst, NY; and his aunt Elaine Ernst of Port Allegany, PA. Jeffrey’s extended family includes several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary Backus and Nancy Burrows, and his sister Kelly Backus.
Jeff had a lifelong love for sports and was an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan. His passion extended to coaching Pop Warner football for his sons and serving as President of the Palm City Dolphins during the mid-1990s. Known for his infectious sense of humor, Jeff had a gift for making others laugh and bringing joy wherever he went.
He found peace near the water—cherishing time spent at the beach and enjoying fishing in the ocean. His warmth and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held November 9 in Stuart, FL. In honor of Jeff’s memory, donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
