I called my beloved cousin Jeannie, and she was the “sister” I never had. We had such a wonderful time growing up together— singing and playing duets on the piano (she was a natural musician, I was NOT!), riding our bikes on country roads, and playing tricks on our parents. In later years, we loved getting our own families together and watching them become parents themselves. And then, I watched helplessly as my Jeannie bravely fought cancer for years, all the while smiling and saying, “I’m fine.”’ Even though I will miss her terribly, it is that courage, positive attitude, and unwavering faith that assures me she is now in a far better place, completely healed, singing in a Heavenly choir, and giving kisses to her beloved JJ.

My favorite picture and memory: As everyone who knows my mom knows her love for Purdue football. We left Indy in snow for the Purdue Illinois game. It was freezing. Purdue was unranked(as usual) and Illinois was ranked 21. Purdue prevailed 31-24 in last quarter. By that time my husband Scott had left to get car warmed up and picked us up at the gate thinking his Alma Mater (Illinois) had won…we informed him otherwise and glad to be in the warmth of the car at last.
