Jay Reed Selby, a cherished husband, beloved son, brother, friend, and inspiring leader, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 47. Born on February 24, 1977, Jay was a vibrant and spirited individual who called Rocklin, CA and Coeur d'Alene, ID his homes. His unwavering generosity, kindness, and vision left an indelible mark on the countless lives he touched throughout his life.
Beloved son to Jay W Selby and Lola Mae (Ginger) Reed (passed), Jay Reed Selby continued and grew his legacy in the Erosion Control Industry. His company was more than business - he didn't see people as customers or employees, they were family. Jay was the youngest son, leaving behind 4 sisters and 1 brother - Randy Criner, Cheri Sanders, April Rosentiel, Dawn Selby, and Jayna Selby Wilson. .
From an early age Jay was the star of the show, beginning when he was 4 at a dinner show in Reno with Jay Sr and Ginger watching the famous Charo perform, singing "It's a Small World". They gave him roses to take to the stage and she ended her set saying "it's a little boy!" as the curtains came down. Later in mens room, the elated little Jay sang "It's a Small World" and received a standing ovation from the men as he exited. He has always been a showman, and a ladies man.
His love of cars started when his father purchased the coveted DeLorean that he drove to pick Jay up from school in. From then he went on to build his own cars, race Shelby Mustangs, and cruise around in his Shelby Cobra. Planes, trains, automobiles, and boats, he loved them all. What he most loved about having toys was the ability to share experiences and create memories with others. Jay was always generous to spoil others.
Jay lived life to the fullest, doing everything on an epic level. His adventures took him around the world climbing 5 of the 7 highest peaks in the world, to being a sponsored snowboarder, to riding waves with the great surfers like Johnny Rice. Recently he had completed his solo for his pilots license in Auburn, CA, and was active in the aviation community. From speed boats to houseboats, to his final Sea Ray on lake Coeur d'Alene, he loved the water. His biggest accomplishment was finding and marrying the love of his life, Dejon.
As a devoted husband to Dejon Hart Selby, Jay was the embodiment of love and partnership. Their marriage was a testament to mutual admiration and unwavering support, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew them. Jay's ability to see potential in others, coupled with his remarkable leadership, allowed him to motivate and uplift everyone around him.
Jay was known for his unique talent of making each person feel like the most important in the world. Whether it was through a simple conversation or a grand gesture, he had an unparalleled gift for connection and empathy. His friends and family often marveled at his ability to understand and embrace the diverse stories and dreams of those he encountered. He inspired change.
Throughout his life, Jay used his keen insight and warm heart to impact lives in profound and meaningful ways. He was a visionary who saw beyond the present, always eager to create a future that was brighter for everyone. After recently selling his Erosion Control businesses, Jay was starting a new career as a Car Wash Owner in Coeur d'Alene. His legacy lives on in his wife, his family, and the many individuals he inspired and the communities he enriched with his presence.
The Celebration of Life to honor and celebrate Jay Reed Selby's extraordinary life will be held at The Chalet Event Center, at 5450 China Garden Rd, Rocklin, CA 95677 on Friday, April 4, 2025, 12pm - 4pm. As we gather to remember a man who gave so much of himself to others, we are reminded of the incredible power of kindness and the enduring impact of a life well-lived.
Jay's departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Yet, his spirit and the lessons he imparted remain with us, urging us to live with the same generosity, kindness and love in our hearts that he so effortlessly embodied.
