Obituary

Jason E Hogan was born and raised in the mountains of Colorado. He lived large and pursued all his dreams. Jason grew up in Coal Creek Canyon In the foothills of the Rockies surrounded by wonderful neighbors and friends, who today still remember and love him. Jason attended Western State University and the Rocky Mtn College of Art & Design. As a young man he worked in Alaska as a fishing and hunt guide.

After graduation, Jason entered the mining industry as a Surveyor and rose quickly in the ranks to train and manage others in this field. Jason traveled and worked throughout the US and gained a reputation...as "Irreplaceable." One of his proudest achievements was being the Planning and Survey Manager on the Sanford Underground Scientific Project in Lead, SD. He assisted in the conversion of the deepest gold mine in the Country to an underground research facility to house the study of dark matter and exploration of future energy sources. Jason received numerous accolades and awards for his service.

While Jason worked primarily underground, he loved the great outdoors and nature. He skied, biked, hiked, camped, fished, rafted, played golf, and snowmobiled throughout the country. One of his passions was motocross racing and actually he loved all vehicle racing, from dirt bikes and vintage cars to F1. In January, Jason attended the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. For years, he was an avid participant in the Baja 1000 and Baja 500 races in Mexico. This June, Jason was the second team rider in the 2026 Baja 500 when he succumbed to the heat and arduous weight of the race. He was living his dream and surrounded by his fellow racing community in his final hours.

Jason was a kind, gentle, strong, generous, loyal son, brother, uncle and friend. Jason is the beloved son of Dan & Regina and  brother to Jenn & Graham. He adored his nephew, James, and niece, Allie. Jason was a mentor to James, who followed him in the industry as a mining engineer and is now working in Nevada. He was dearly loved by everyone he met. He selflessly gave to others and was a protector of the environment. Jason volunteered each spring to clear the bike and hiking trails in his community. He is gone too soon and will be dearly missed by so many.

🌲 So glad we all had such adventurous, full, memorable years together in the supportive community of Coal Creek Canyon.
The Hogans lived just down the hill from us in Crescent Park. I’m thinking of all of you. So sorry for your loss. Take care.

I only met Jason in passing when I was visiting my son in Lead. I know he was well liked and respected in his career. My son, Jordan, will miss his friendship. He shared a memory of him with me today and he was able to laugh while remembering the good times they had at their various jobs in AK, CO and SD. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Such a tragic loss to all who knew Jason. I grew up with him in the canyon along side with many great childhood friends. I had not been in touch with him for years. When I did see him he was in his usual self, energetic and happy. Condolences to the families and especially those young adult children. A great loss indeed.
