Obituary
With deep sadness, we share that Jane Justice Reed, 81, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026. She was born on January 19, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas. A longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, Jane moved to Knoxville in 2016 to be closer to her daughter and family.
Jane will be remembered as an intelligent, insightful, and open-minded woman whose warmth, humor, and love of life drew people to her. She was elegant and engaging, with a quick wit and a generous spirit. An avid reader and accomplished bridge player, Jane enjoyed lively conversation, lifelong learning, and time spent with friends and family.
Throughout her life, Jane gave generously of her time and compassion. She volunteered with the Humane Society, the YWCA, hospice organizations, and many other community groups. She was deeply moved by injustice and cared profoundly about the well-being and dignity of others.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Megan Brown and husband Mark Brown; her granddaughter, Nancy Brown Devine and husband Samson Devine; and her sister, Judy Justice.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the members of Church of the Good Samaritan for their many visits, cards, and steadfast support, as well as to the staff and volunteers of Morning Pointe of Knoxville Assisted Living, The Lantern at Morning Pointe, and Shalom Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
Funeral services and internment will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 4 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, 425 North Cedar Bluff Road, Knoxville, with a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley.
