James William Bell, Jr.

There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to LOVE, BELIEVE, DO, and mostly LIVE.

Obituary

James William Bell, Jr., (aka, Finn/Jim/Jimmy, Jimmy, Jr.), 57, of Costa Mesa, CA, passed from this life on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Born on August 1, 1967, at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, he was the beloved son of James W. Bell, Sr. and Effie (Gresty) Rivera.

Jim—a remarkable spirit whose love for adventure, creativity, and learning shaped the incredible man he was. Whether traveling on the tube in London in the 90's, singing behind a mic, reciting poetry, strumming his guitar, acting on stage, or crafting a new song, this true Renaissance Man embraced life with a passion that inspired everyone around him.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Jim was the head lifeguard at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach and captain of his college tennis team at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa (1993 graduate). His leadership in both the water and on the court showcased his dedication and competitive spirit. He approached every challenge with the same tenacity he brought to his work as an event planner and political consultant, where he combined his creativity with strategic thinking to bring visions to life.

His journeys through Europe and beyond were not just about exploring new places; they were about discovering the depths of human experience. Each encounter enriched his art and work, allowing him to weave stories and melodies that resonated with the soul.

Jim had an extraordinary gift for finding beauty in the ordinary. He reminded us that every moment could be transformed into something meaningful, whether through a heartfelt performance, a well-executed event, or a thoughtful conversation. His creativity knew no bounds, and his enthusiasm for life was infectious.

Though Jim may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the music he created, the words he spoke, the events he planned, and the lives he touched. Let us carry forward his legacy by embracing our own passions and adventures, always seeking to find inspiration in the world around us.

Jim's warmth and genuine kindness touched the lives of everyone he met. He was devoted to his family: his mother, Effie Rivera, stepmother Roberta Bell, brother Kenneth Gresty, and sisters Kimberly Sands and Kelly Bell, along with three nieces, two nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, his furry companions, Handsome Henry and Pretty Penny, and those he truly touched and loved beyond words, will cherish his memory. He was a best friend to Erwin Brion of Costa Mesa, CA. He is predeceased by his father, James William Bell, Sr., his niece, Erica, and great nephews, Jonah and Ezekiel.

Thank you, Jim, for the joy you brought into our lives. He will forever remain in our hearts. His bright spirit and loving heart will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

I can’t say I knew Jim, the adult all that well. Aside from an effusively positive Facebook post from time to time, our relationship was grounded strongly in my childhood. But wow, was it important. Jim and his mother and his sister all took turns babysitting me when I was between the ages of six and eight, and Jim, especially was the very first person not related to me to put a microphone in front of my face. She taught me about college rock, Depeche Mode, and the art of being a DJ. I can’t tell you whether that something he ever actually did, but it’s stuck with me forever.

I’ve spent most of my adult life in media, and yet there are few experiences as important as that first time that I thought I could make something entertaining with the technology in front of me. I will never ever forget that.

is an encapsulation of Jim? Certainly not. He shared his thoughts, his faith, his positivity, and most importantly his time with a rambunctious little kid who never forgot it.

I was just heartbroken to hear about Finns passing. We spent many great times in London playing cards, enjoying a pint after tennis and kicking up the town. Many a night talking about music, life, love and the universe on the rooftop at the flat in West Hampstead with Pj. I last saw Finn in 2019 on a visit to California when I introduced him to my family and it was like we’d seen each other yesterday. Such a gorgeous soul. Although we didnt speak often I will miss you my dear friend. I raise a toast to you tonight here in London. Both now and beyond love always Sarah

Where does one begin or end? My Little Brother could take these words and create a thought process that would make one truly evaluate our simple yet complex existence. His Love and Energy was beyond unique! One of a Kind, Special, always moving towards the goal. I am extremely Heartbroken. His road to Heaven was exciting yet not without his earthly challenges that came before him, he moved on with such determination regardless of the bumps and hills he encountered.
Jimmy, I will always have you in my heart and spirit, I miss you Bro! I hope God enjoys the mints you set on his pillows all arranged with Love.

You were one of a kind, my old roomie! Always ready to challenge my thoughts and beliefs about politics and life. We also enjoyed many great matches on the courts--both tennis and beach volleyball. We had a great roomate situation with big brother Ken and kid sister Kelly--until our suspicious KGB landlord broke it up. :-)
Rest in peace, dear friend Jimmy Bell...

It’s really hard to believe that you are no longer with us. We didn’t know each other for that many years but every breakfast I had with you every work situation we did together every meaningful chat made such an impression on me. You are so special in my life and listen as I talked about, my relationship with my late husband Mel and made me appreciate all the little things in life whenever I hear our song, I guess I’ll cry but also smile, remembering the special man that you are you will be missed by so many and I can’t believe I have to say goodbye.

There are not enough words to describe the love I had for my brother (and vice versa), my best friend. We were the "Wonder Twins" and nothing was impossible to accomplish in our minds. We had so much life to live and to share with each other, but it was taken all too soon. The world will never be the same without him in it. He was such a light in this world, and was loved by so many, and he touched so many people's lives throughout the world. He was a true "Renaissance Man" full of adventures, music, writing, poetry, art, and finding his way in this thing we call life. My love for music, "listening" to the lyrics, dancing like nobody is looking, laughing, smiling, and trying to live life to the fullest, all came from him. I am so lucky to have been blessed with him as my big brother. Thank you for always believing in me and being my biggest cheerleader. I hear you singing "Bino's Galaxy" and it brings joy to my ears. Until we meet again dear bro...Wonder Twin powers, activate! I LOVE YOU BOTH NOW AND BEYOND! XOXO
