Biography
Nde James Shuka Dandak (1st January, 1951– 7th June, 2026)
Today, we gather with hearts filled with gratitude as we celebrate the life of Nde James Shuka Dandak, a remarkable man whose journey on earth spanned around Seventy-Five impactful years.
Born to Baba Dandak and Mama Mwatem in Mimyak Village of Amper District, in Kanke LGA, Plateau State. Nde J. S. Dandak was orphaned at an early age. He grew up with various relations, among them was Nde Gozuk Rotdung of blessed memory. He lived a life defined by sheer determination, service, integrity, wisdom, and love for God and humanity.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
His educational journey began at the SUM Primary School, Amper [1960 -1966], where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate [FSLC]. Government Teachers' College, Toro [1967 -1971] was his next training ground, where he obtained his Teachers Grade II Certificate. He went to the Advanced Teachers' College, Kano [1978 -1981], and graduated with the Nigeria Certificate in Education [NCE]. He paused his education for about a decade before going to the University of Jos, Nigeria, for a Bachelor of Education [B.Ed] between 1991 and 1996. Then he went in for a Master's of Education in English [M. Ed /Eng] from 1999 to 2000. Though he had set a personal target to bag a PhD before he retires, severe health challenges were the main reason this goal could not be achieved.
CAREER AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Shuka, as older people and his contemporaries fondly call him, is a very hard-working man. His devotion to any tasks entrusted to him is above par. He took his duty personally, beyond official requirements. He would always go the extra mile to ensure the needful is done. His entire career was in and around the classroom and educational institutions.
As a dedicated teacher, he devoted himself to shaping young minds, believing deeply in the transformative power of education. Countless students passed through his classroom, carrying with them not only knowledge but also the values of discipline, hard work, and respect that he so faithfully exemplified.
He worked as the HeadMaster at various Primary Schools in different communities, these include: L.S.B. Myet/Nemel (1972 -1976), then at EKAN Primary School, Tuwan Kabwir (1976 -1977) and also as Headmaster at RCM Transfered School, Chip (1977 -1978)
He taught English in the following secondary schools: Boys Secondary School, Gindiri (1982 -1988), GSS Namu (1988 -1989), Government College Bokkos (1989 -1993), Government College Pankshin (1993 -1996), GSS Chigwong (1996 -1998), GSS Mangun (1998 -2000), and GSS Wokkos (2000 -2001)
His teaching career climaxed at the College of Arts, Science and Technology, Kurgwi Plateau State, where he lectured until he retired.
He has attended several workshops and has research publications and paper presentations to his credit. He was also a member of a couple of Professional Bodies.
Daddy received several awards and commendations in his career life. He also loved to dance, he was an orator and a great athlete
FAMILY LIFE
Beyond the classroom, he was a loving, but tough, principled and devoted father. His family was the centre of his life, and he nurtured his children with unwavering care, guidance, and encouragement. Through his words and actions, he taught them the importance of honesty, perseverance, humility, and faith in Jesus Christ as the essence living. His legacy lives on in the lives of the many children he raised and inspired. Among them are Rev Kopdi Stephen Dashi & Family.
His marriage to the love of his life, Nana Apphia James Dandak was on 4th April, 1975 and lasted for 51 long, fruitful, fulfilling years. They have been blessed with 7 children, two of whom have gone to be with Jesus.
SPIRITUAL AND COMMUNITY LIFE
Nde James Shuka Dandak was a devout believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and a committed member of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN). He was the pioneer Choir Master of the Men's Fellowship COCIN LCC Vel, Pankshin.
He was also a respected community leader whose influence extended far beyond his immediate family. He served his community with dedication, wisdom, and selflessness. People sought his counsel because he was known for fairness, patience, and genuine concern for the well-being of others.
He served as Chairman of Mimyak Development Association (MDA), actively participated in Amper Community Development programs and projects, and was also a pioneer leader of the Ngas Youth Movement (NYM). He also worked tirelessly as a member of the Ngas Development Association (NDA).
Whether as a teacher, father, mentor, or community leader, he touched countless lives and earned the respect and affection of all who knew him.
Though we mourn his passing in 2026, we also celebrate a life well lived—a life rich in purpose, compassion, and meaningful contributions. His memory will continue to inspire future generations, and his legacy will remain a guiding light for his family, friends, former students, and community.
Upon his relocation to Jos, baba shared church fellowship with the God-life Assembly until his passing.
As we bid farewell to Nde James Shuka Dandak, we take comfort in the many lessons he taught, the lives he transformed, and the love he shared. His earthly journey has ended, but his influence and example will live on forever in our hearts.
Keep resting with the Lord Jesus until we meet at His feet.

Since our father died 22 years ago, as his younger brother you stepped in. You filled the gap he left and became a father to all. You welcome us into your home and raised us alongside your children. There was no segregation, only equal love, care and sacrifices.

Daddy, You are my father by every right—not simply because you said so, but you have shown me what a father’s love looks like through your words, sacrifices and actions. I came to know Baba and I Mama Dandak 19yrs ago when I came to Pankshin. A loving, caring and an encourager. Baba will always want me to participate in every of his family events if I'm available. He ensured that I was informed when they decided to move to Jos. I never new that we would not see face to face again on this side of eternity. Baba, I will miss your constant WhatsApp prayer messages and check up on my ministry and family well being. Rest on my Beloved Father until we meet at the feet of Jesus Christ to part no more. I love you but the Lord loves you most. Good night Papa!!!

Isaiah 57:2 those who walk sprightly enter into peace, they find rest as they lie in death. Daddy was a wonderful man whose life reflected humility, faith and love for God. One thing that always stood out about him was his passion for prayer, every time we visited him, he would warmly ask us to pray for him, that simple request shows his deep dependence on God. He believed in us, encouraged usand always welcomed our prayers with gratitude, this has left a lasting impression in our lives. We thank God for the privilege of knowing Baba,and pray that the Lord grant him eternal rest, rest in peace Daddy.

FAMILY.
The President, National Executive Council, and the entire members of the Pankshin Old Students Association (POSA) extend our heartfelt condolences to Rev. Kopdi and the Dandak family on the passing of Baba James Dandak, your beloved foster father.
Though Baba James lived to a ripe age, the loss of a father figure is always painful. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by family, friends, and all who were privileged to know him. His love, guidance, and support will remain cherished memories to those whose lives he touched.
We are particularly saddened that this loss comes at a time when you are still grieving the passing of your bosom friend and brother, Venerable Dr. Amos Fube. These successive losses are indeed difficult to bear. We pray that Almighty God will comfort you and the entire Dandak family, grant you the strength and fortitude to bear these painful losses, and fill your hearts with His peace. May the soul of Baba James Dandak rest in perfect peace.

We are particularly saddened that this loss comes at a time when you are still grieving the passing of your bosom friend and brother, Venerable Dr. Amos Fube. In my few years of knowing kaka, one thing that no one could take away from him was his ability to be joyful, he was always cracking jokes with everyone around him, I still remember every time I greeted him and held his shaky yet so gentle hands and ooohh! It was always a delight to watch him and Nana, how much they cared for each other, their small fights yet they couldn't stay away, little wonder they were married for 51 years. Baba, I’m still struggling to believe you’re gone. Since 2002 when I lost my parents, you picked me up and became father, shelter, and strength. You didn’t just speak comfort — you lived it.
You promised me several times that you would give me the indigene form of Kanke LGA. That was more than paperwork to you. It was your way of saying “You belong. This is your home too.” I will forever carry that assurance.
I’m grateful beyond words that you used my car for your last trip to Mimyak, your village. What an honour it was to serve you one last time. Thank you for blessing us, your children and all your grandchildren, while you were still here. Your love, prayers, and covering will outlive all of us.

People come into our lives in many ways and for different reasons, pathways orchestrated by God Himself. For my family, one of His greatest gifts was Nde Malam James Shuka Dandak—the beloved husband of my dear sister, Aphia. Together, they shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship that spanned over half a century.
Nde Shuka was far more than an in-law; he became a true son to my mother. The bond they shared was exceptional, anchored in deep mutual respect. I fondly remember how he would visit her, and the two of them would sit together for hours, having quiet, heart-to-heart discussions.
Being the only son among four girls, I was fiercely loved and protected by my sisters. During my secondary school days, I would spend my holidays with Aphia and Nde Shuka. It was during these formative years that he stepped into my life not just as a brother-in-law, but as a guardian and a true brother. He always ensured I was well taken care of, never letting me return to school without my transport fare and more than enough pocket money. He championed my future.
Nde Shuka was a man of remarkable bravery and vibrant spirit. We still tell the story of the night he was courting my sister and visiting our home. A python slipped into my mother’s compound, but Nde Shuka didn't hesitate—he faced it and killed it, proving early on that he was a protector. He also brought immense joy wherever he went. He was a phenomenal dancer. I will never forget the Christmas his people came to perform in my village for my sister, as was our tradition. Nde Shuka took to the center and danced his heart out, a memory of pure celebration that we will cherish forever.
He was a man of fierce determination. Nde Shuka deeply valued education and pursued it relentlessly, balancing the grueling demands of schooling while simultaneously raising his young family. He went on to become an English teacher, shaping and inspiring the minds of countless students. Beyond the classroom, he was a pillar of our community. He was a leader among men, serving as one of the vital anchors called upon by the Ngas Youth Movement during the historic, inaugural days of Pusdung, the Ngas Cultural Festival. His impact on our cultural heritage is etched in history.
Above all, Nde Shuka was a devoted family man and the spiritual priest of his home. He raised his children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, and today, his legacy flourishes through them. Because of the godly foundation he laid, his only daughter is married to a pastor, one son serves as a chaplain in the Nigerian Army, another son is a dedicated Pastor, one remains a deeply committed child of God and the youngest another is a gospel music composer and singer. Every single one of his children is actively and faithfully serving the Lord today, which stands as a profound testament to his spiritual leadership.
I love you, Nde. I admire the man, the brother, and the leader you were. Good night, my brother. Rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord you so dearly loved and faithfully served.
