Born July 31, 1949 in Brantford, Ontario to Olive May Robb and James Munro Calder.
Graduated from Brantford Collegiate shortly after which he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He loved racing cars.

In October was posted to CFB Lahr, Germany from 1975 to 1980 where son James Ian and Larissa Anna Olivia were born. He was a member of the Ski Patrol at this time as well. Thereafter the family was posted to Kamloops, where he loved to play broomball.
The family was then posted to Ottawa and finally Toronto, where they lived in Bradford and then Toronto. He was active in curling and golf at this time. In Toronto he divorced and got remarried to Betty Calvin. He moved to Aurora in 1992 and retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1995.
He moved to Meaford then Brantford, where he worked at Adidas until 2014. He was an active member of the Gunners Club, and served for a term as President. He loved playing cribbage with his friends there.
He moved to Toronto in 2020 to be closer to his daughter, and then to Peterborough, where he spent his final years at St. John's.
He was strong and tough when needed, as a soldier, but fun at home, making lots of great memories with his children. Outdoor activities like skiing, going to wonderland, and fishing. Quiet activities like chess, Monopoly and Risk. He loved playing cards with friends and watching any sport on tv.
He was so proud of his grandkids accomplishments in sports and activities, from cadets and skiing, to skating, soccer and piano.
He was so happy to spend his last few years in Peterborough spending time with his daughter's family.
He sadly passed in the early morning hours of December 7, 2024 at the Peterborough Hospital after a tough battle with cancer.
He's with Betty and his parents in heaven now, watching over his loved ones. RIP. You are loved.
