In Loving Memory of Jalen Thomas Floyd

May 12, 1997 – July 19, 2026
Jalen Thomas Floyd was born on May 12, 1997, in Edina, Minnesota. From the very
beginning, Jalen brought joy wherever he went. Known for his kind heart, fearless spirit,
and infectious smile that could light up any room, he truly is the life of the party. His
presence is unforgettable, and his ability to make others laugh, feel welcome, and enjoy
the moment is a gift to everyone who knows him.

Jalen lived life boldly and without fear. He excelled in athletics, especially track, football,
and basketball, where his determination, talent, and competitive spirit shined. Whether
on the field, the court, or simply spending time with family and friends, Jalen gave his all
and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He is deeply loved and will forever be
remembered for his vibrant personality, generous heart, and unwavering love for those
closest to him. Jalen’s greatest joy was his daughter, Nadia Lindsey Floyd, who will forever carry his
love and legacy forward.

Jalen leaves to cherish his memory and uphold his legacy: his loving mother and
stepfather, Angela and Steve Shepherd; his father, Thomas Floyd Jr.; his beloved
daughter, Nadia Lindsey Floyd; his brothers, Ricky Thomas Floyd and Stevie Shepherd;
his sisters, Asiza Shepherd and Kalani Aviana Floyd; his grandparents, Faye Brown,
Elizabeth Floyd, Rick Thomas ( Lakisha) , Teresa Thomas, Walter Steward (Maddie),
and his great-grandmother, Earnestine Boone. He is also lovingly remembered by his aunt, 
Monique Aaron (Demetrius), Kenya, Dennis, Keva and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members,
and countless friends whose lives were forever touched by his love, laughter, and unforgettable spirit. 

Though Jalen’s time with us was far too short, the memories he created, the love he
shared, and the lives he touched will remain in our hearts forever.

Jalen was my best friend. His mom allowed a new lightskin kid who transferred into a new school immediately into their home. Me Ricky and Jalen became inseparable. Still are. Life has a real interesting way of making you understand the reality. Jalen was a gift to this earth from God himself. Today marks 3 months since Jalen left us. It is still very painful and hard to believe he is gone. Jalen will always be loved. Jalen will always be missed.

One of my favorite memories of Jalen was when he and Ricky came to visit us in Birmingham, Alabama during the summer of 2010. That was the summer I decided that I no longer wanted hair on my head. I sat on a stool in the middle of the bathroom, gave Jalen and Ricky shaving cream and a razor, and let them go to work. They shaved my head completely. I had quite a few cuts, but they both did a great job. I have been shaving my head since that day. The smiles on their faces while they were shaving my head was priceless.
