What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us. - Helen Keller

Obituary

Isabella Nyaguthii Wanjohi, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch, passed away peacefully at 84 years of age. Born in Kabiruini, Mathira, Nyeri District, Isabella grew up with remarkable resilience, losing her mother at the age of four and being raised across two households in a traditional Kikuyu homestead.
She excelled academically, earning a place at Alliance Girls High School, where she served as Deputy Head Girl, before completing a degree in sociology at the University of Nairobi in 1974. Her professional career took her from the Ministry of Lands and Settlement to the National Bank of Kenya, where she rose to Head of the Administration Department, before devoting herself to the family's business interests from 1987 onward.
On 2nd September 1967, she married the love of her life, Isaac Wanjohi, at Nyamachacki PCEA Church in Nyeri. Together they raised five children — Harriet, Florence, Janet, Nancy, and Sam — and built a home defined by warmth, faith, and shared values. She was a devoted grandmother, a cherished sister and aunt, and a generous friend and mentor to many. She was an active member of the PCEA and the Langata Rongai Welfare Association.
She is survived by her husband Isaac, her children, grandchildren, and a wide family who will carry her legacy of faith, hard work, integrity, and love.

She was a truly gracious, elegant, and kind lady whose warmth and generosity touched many lives. Together with Mama Njoki, she guided and mentored numerous young women in Muramati, myself included, especially during the Kuona Itara ceremonies as we prepared for marriage.

I was particularly touched by the remarkable kindness she and Mr. Wanjohi showed during my wedding. They generously provided us with a clean, fully fueled vehicle and a driver to transport us wherever we needed to go. Their thoughtfulness and support made a significant difference during such an important occasion and remain a cherished memory.

Her wisdom, generosity, and loving spirit will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

A tribute to my dear Isabella,

Where do I start? My sorrow is deep.
My last meeting with Isabella was at engineer Macharia’s get together a few weeks back.
As always, we sat at the same table and had a hearty time remembering when our children were growing up and how we encouraged them to do well at school.
Isabella was my banker at the national Bank where I opened my first bank account❤️
But more than that , she was my true friend.
Of her many virtues, the greatest that impressed me most was her profound love, care and devotion to her five children and her dear Husband.
She was a parent like no other and in a class of her own.
Isabella knew the uniqueness of each of her beautiful child and treated every one of them accordingly. A warm smile would come over her face when talking of them ; a smile that can only come from a contented heart.
Isabella was a loyal friend, trustworthy and always there for me and my family.
We will miss your grace, gentleness and loving heart.

Rest in eternal peace my dear Isabella.

In loving memory of Mama Harriet. Thank you for the incredible values you instilled in your children and the wisdom you shared with us all. I am forever grateful for your generosity in helping me set up my first kitchen with the gift of a cooking gas cylinder. Your thoughtful spirit will always be remembered.

Isabella Wanjohi was a founding member of our Aramati group. I, and my fellow aramatis, will remember her for many things, following among them:
. Championing family values to the members
. A good example of a devoted wife and mother.
. High level of leadership in group, with proactive approach.
. Gifted with a jovial and participating approach to our group activities, with a high level of wisdom and tolerance.
In her passing on, as a group we have lost an important member and we'll greatly miss her invaluable input! On behalf of the group, I join the rest in condoling with the Wanjohi family, and pray that God rests her soul in eternal peace.

May the Almighty Rest Mama Harriet’s gracious soul in perfect peace. We were to meet that Thursday afternoon…. As I reflect now, I know that God had a plan for Harriet to spend the final afternoon with Mama. Rest well Mama Harriet, Huruka Thayu Maitu….

I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Isabella Wanjohi well, but I saw firsthand the depth of the love her family had for her. Through my 13-year work relationship with her son, Sam, I learned how much she meant to him.
I recall a day she called me to troubleshoot a technical issue on our USSD system. It was then that I realized why Sam had been so adamant about including that feature; it was for her. That small act of devotion speaks volumes about their bond. My heart goes out to Sam and his family; may you find comfort in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
May she rest in eternal peace.

Late Isabella Nyaguthii Wanjohi was my sister-in-law but she was more that that she was my Mum also. After demise of my late Parents late Rev.Ibrahim Gathungu & late Mrs Harriet Waruguru Gathungu both herself & her husband became our parents the role they.have carried very well. She has always supported us in our Gatgungus Family in all our activities - Rurachios, weddings, Birthdays, other social gathering etc. Personally I came Nairobi & I stayed with her for along time and we stayed without any problems. She gave us access to pur brother Eng. Wanjohi. She was very welcoming & very supportive in our lives & she was there for me. I will really miss my Mum but I will say fare thee well Mama Harriet & may the Almighty Lord give eternal peace. Munyori Gathungu.
